IU-Verdes asks PSOE and C's not to grant full autonomy to the regional government to manage the Lorca coast (23/02/2017)

The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, warns that the transfer of new powers to the Government of Murcia will only lead to pressure from sectors interested in the exploitation of the coast and generalize a model based on urban speculation, the threat of the marine ecosystem and degradation Of the habitat of the area

The Councilor of the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has announced that her training will oppose the joint motion that PP, PSOE and Citizens will defend in the Municipal Plenary of February for "the transfer of services and functions in matters of Coasts and management and management of the coast from the State Administration to the Autonomous Executive ".

Martín has recriminated the other groups in the opposition that intend to grant the regional government of the PP "full autonomy" to manage the coast when it is directly responsible for major environmental disasters.

In that sense, he recalled that since 1984 the autonomous community has delegated powers by the State in matters of "coastal zone management and landfills".

Examples of this management that Martín called "negligence" are the serious state of pollution in which the Mar Menor is or the fact that Marina de Cope is the most contaminated by marine litter on the coast of Murcia.

Therefore, he considered "incomprehensible" that PSOE and Citizens align with the PP on this issue and asked them to "reconsider" and "withdraw support for the motion."

The mayor of IU-Verdes said that the transfer of these skills "far from guaranteeing a management of higher quality and attention to the needs of the natural environment, will only encourage the pressure of sectors interested in the exploitation of the coast."

In that sense, he emphasized that with the "legal leap" for the maritime public domain to be assumed by the regional administration, "a model based on urban speculation, the threat of the marine ecosystem and the degradation of the area".

"For the PP, our coast is only a lucrative business," Martín said, as evidenced by the fact that its leaders have already announced that their exploitation will mean an increase of 120 million euros in regional GDP.

The new autonomic powers will also allow the "unlocking" of the El Gorguel or Puerto Mayor container terminal in La Manga del Mar Menor, both projects in deadlock by judicial decisions and by reports that warn of the serious damage they would cause to the environment in case of To be executed.

"The excuse is more administrative simplification and better protection of the environment, when the real intention is to unblock projects that would seriously damage natural spaces in the already battered coast of the Region," Martín said.

Cope's Marina

For Gloria Martín, the "decentralization" of environmental competences related to the coast is a "worrying fact" because those who will now decide on protected spaces "are the same ones that for years have opted for the wild, speculative and unsustainable urbanization of our coast and that Refuse to comply with the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia (TSJ) that annuls the urban adaptation of the General Plan of Lorca with respect to Marina de Cope.

For IU-Verdes the management of the coasts must remain under the tutelage of the State to prevent the greed of some promoters and the irresponsibility of the regional government destroy one of the most important natural resources of the Region, patrimony of all Murcia.
