The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure and the City of Lorca have completed work to recover the stairway that gives access to the hermitage of San Roque and the surrounding houses.
More than 2,200 residents of the San Pedro neighborhood, as well as tourists who visit this area, will benefit from this work that has improved access in this high part of the city.
The Director General of Planning, Architecture and Housing, Nuria Fuentes, and the Councilor for Works and Services of the City of Lorca, Eulalia Ibarra, visited these sites today to check the state of accessibility to this urban space.
Fuentes stressed that "it is a further step for the integral remodeling of the neighborhood, as the staircase is now more comfortable and will allow people to access the hermitage, which is the oldest Christian temple in Lorca, and citizens residing in Houses around them can do so more safely. "
The actions have been carried out on a surface of 1,375 square meters, which include the gardening of the area in which have been placed five flower beds of 183 square meters, planters and tree bark with the planting of trees, in addition to installing 16 new luminaires Of led technology, to promote the energy saving, four ornamental projectors to illuminate the Hermitage and 40 wall sconces for the ornamental lighting of the stairs.
There have also been 530 linear meters of underground pipeline for the underground of public lighting, and different rest areas have been built with prefabricated concrete pavement of aged type that occupy a total area of ​​770 square meters.
The steps and sections of the stairs, constructed by combining natural stone and pallet, have been adapted by unifying the height and bottom of the steps.
The concrete walls have been clad with natural stone veneer and have been placed with 32 meters of technical wooden pallet bench.
And on the stairs and surroundings have installed 131 linear meters of railings.
The works, which have meant an investment of more than 243,000 euros, have been funded by the agreement that maintains the regional government with the City Council, which allocates 10 million euros to regenerate the upper districts of Lorca.
Reforms in 31 streets
These works are part of the regeneration of the San Pedro neighborhood, the most extensive and populated of the slopes of the castle of Lorca, which contemplates reforming 31 streets, of which 23 are already finished.
Work on these roads has meant a total investment by the Autonomous Community of three million euros.
The following actions planned in the neighborhood are to improve the Plaza Mayor and undertake the second phase of the streets of San Pedro, Toto and Niño, and when they finish the works in the Women's Park will be held in those of Sor Matilde García y Molina.
