These figures show that there is a tendency to increase the number of dogs identified with a chip, reflecting the excellent result of the public awareness work carried out by different administrations, with the fundamental collaboration of the Official College of Veterinarians of the Region of Murcia, and all its colleges that develop their professional work in our region.

The Edil de Sanidad has indicated that the figures indicate that in 2016 1,095 dogs were identified, 38 more animals than in 2015, a year in which 1,062 dogs were added to the chip.

From the Municipal Consistory we welcome the progress that is being confirmed regarding the responsible possession of dogs in our municipality.

We are talking about figures that encourage us to go ahead, emphasizing the work that has been carried out in this regard.

The care of our pets begins with a careful veterinary attention that includes the placement of the well-known microchips that, besides, to identify the animal, serves for its location in case of loss, since the bodies and security forces and the Local Police Have readers of these devices.

From the Department of Health has been delivered microchip readers to the Local Police, Seprona (2), Civil Guard Traffic and Municipal Emergency Service, in addition to the device with which the Council itself.

These readers detect the implanted chips, in addition to dogs, in species such as birds, horses, ruminants (sheep and goats), cats, ferrets and goats, among others.

Ruiz Jódar explained that since the beginning of the program has been identified by placing the corresponding microchip of a total of 14,798 animals of which remain active 12,325 and has been dropped to 2,473.

In total, it should be added that in our municipality, according to the existing data, there is 1 dog per 7 inhabitants.

The Mayor of Sanidad has also stated that our City Council, thanks to the agreement signed between the Mayor, Francisco Jódar, and the President of the Official College of Veterinarians, has a system that allows the identification of lost pets in the act.

In fact we have joined the System of Identification of Companion Animals of the Region of Murcia, SIAMU.

This is a database that aims to identify pets as a tool to facilitate the recovery of lost or stolen animals, prevent possible abandonment, promote responsible ownership, and help achieve higher levels of health and welfare Both of the animals and of the people who relate to them.

In this way, in the case of a search for a lost animal, SIAMU offers the possibility of checking by entering the identification number of an animal (microchip or tattoo) if an animal is registered in its data files, giving in that case a name And telephone number of the person who is the owner and the veterinarian who made the identification.

It also allows an owner, who has identified an animal in SIAMU to check all the registered data of his animal in case they prove incorrect, in that case it is necessary to have the ID number and the ID of the person who was registered as owner.

In case of inaccuracy, the owner should contact the veterinarian who registered the data or, failing that, another SIAMU veterinarian, provided that SIAMU has exactly and exclusively those provided by the veterinarian.

Regarding the licenses granted to the owners of potentially dangerous dogs, it should be noted that during the past year 51 were delivered.
