The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, together with the Director General of Regional Planning, Architecture and Housing of the CARM, Nuria Fuentes, and the Councilors of Works and Education in the City Council of our city, Lali Ibarra and Francisco Montiel , Participated this morning in the act of receiving the so-called "House of the Captain".

It is a building that has been delivered by the Ministry of Development to the Consistory.

The First Edil explained that the City Council rehabilitated the building years ago, some work that has been recently implemented by the Ministry, a task in which has invested a total of 57,000 euros, and is included in the regional investment of 3 , 8 million euros that has served for the comprehensive renovation of the Los Angeles and Apolonia neighborhoods.

Francisco Jódar has indicated that from the City Council was asked to the Ministry that the works were advanced as possible with the aim of arranging as soon as possible the space completely suitable for the purpose that will be the headquarters of the Chair of Gerontology that is put in March by the Poncemar Foundation and the Faculty of Sociosanitary Sciences of the University of Murcia.

The Mayor has detailed that the conditioning of this space of great historical value for Lorca has included the creation of ramps to access from the University Park.

The façade has also been treated by cracking and exterior painting, the carpentry has been reviewed, the electrical installation has been adapted and interior plastic paint has been applied.

Lastly, various protection measures have been put in place with the aim of being able to be used for the purpose to be given.

Jódar Alonso has also stated that with regard to the rest of the improvements being made in these neighborhoods, it should be noted that the works are going very well.

At the moment the improvements in the accesses by the Streets Professor Joaquín Casalduero and Professor Francisco Barnés are being carried out, as well as the installation of footbridges of connection between Los Angeles and the university campus, with the objective to narrow the relation between the Slum and campus.

Work is also underway on the renewal of sanitation and rainwater networks, one of the essential improvements of the regeneration project that will be completed in November.

The recovery of the House of the Captain is an opportunity to fill the property with life, adding to the facilities dedicated to higher education in the University Campus of Lorca.

Thanks to this adaptation has the appropriate spaces for the purpose that will have: meeting room, study room, hall of events or offices for staff.

The Mayor has affirmed that thanks to the collaboration of the Regional Government, the House of the Captain is currently in an unbeatable state and soon will be able to host the Poncemar Chair of Gerontology, an initiative that delights us and that in the coming days we will let you know .

This building will also become a new space destined to consolidate the City of the Sun as a university focus in the area of ​​Sociosanitary Sciences.
