The councilor of IU-V in the City of Lorca, Adoración Peñas, regretted this morning that the inauguration of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio, after the works - not yet concluded - restoration of the temple, could not be made to coincide with the Inauguration in this space so emblematic of the cultural exhibition "Footprints".
The mayor of IU-V recalls that her group submitted a motion to the Plenary of October 2015 that linked two issues of importance to our city: the unfortunate situation of the historical-artistic set of Lorca with the need to implement initiatives for their comprehensive recovery and , As a punctual complement to the above, the request for the City Council of Lorca to promote the highest level contacts with the regional government of Murcia, requesting from this one that for 2016, or at most for 2017, coinciding with the culmination of the restoration Of the Church of San Patricio, Lorca hosted a new edition of the cultural exhibition HUELLAS.
We then argued, according to Peñas, that this sample of Murcia had a very positive impact for the culture and tourism of the Region 15 years ago, and that was framed in a series of similar cultural projects spread throughout the Spanish geography, among the That emphasized "The ages of the man", an initiative that, as it is known, was developed mainly in the historical cities of Valladolid, Burgos and Leon, with diverse themes.
But the IU-V motion did not succeed as it had been drafted and, finally, after an amendment presented by the Municipal People's Group to the IU-V motion, the following was approved: 1 .- The Plenum of the City Council of Lorca supports the efforts that Mr. Mayor has been making for several years before different institutions, such as Regional Government and Cajamurcia Foundation, so that after the restoration of the exColegiata de San Patricio, an exhibition similar to that under the name Of "Footprints" was held in the Cathedral of Murcia in 2002.
Since that date, denounces the mayor of IU-V, 16 months have passed and we have not heard anything about "Footprints", nor the efforts that have been made from the local government, nor the interest of the Cajamurcia Foundation, Nor of the support of the Regional Government.
The Collegiate - after its restoration is still unfinished - is to be inaugurated this afternoon by the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, and someone must explain the failure of that effort of Lorca to match the inauguration with the sample of Footprints.
IU-V raises two agreements to this month's plenary on this issue.
The first of them abounds in the need for explanations with the requirement to the local government to prepare and publish a detailed report on the procedures carried out to date for the achievement of the sample "Footprints" in Lorca, which reports the contacts, The commitments acquired and, if applicable, the achievements, with the contribution of foreseeable dates for the sample, if the sample ends up being realized in Lorca, which obviously will not be coinciding with the opening of the temple after its restoration.
The second agreement states that, as a result of that report, and in view of the fact that the exhibition can no longer be celebrated coinciding with the inauguration of the restoration works, if the foundations and institutions with which they have been able to maintain contacts have left Of being interested, this City Council is interested in the support of other interlocutors, among them of the Ministry of Culture.
