Older people and their problems, so unrelated to local politics, have today been protagonists of an initiative made public this morning by the councilor of IU-V in the City of Lorca and in turn responsible regional IU-V in matters Of Social Policy, Adoración Peñas.
The councilor Lorca will register this week a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman of Spain to demand the recovery of overtime payments by users of nursing homes in our region.
Adoración Peñas recalls that this initiative, part of its formation in Lorca, has been rejected by the PP in our Town Hall, although it has been estimated in other municipalities such as Totana, Aguilas, Alhama de Murcia or Moratalla.
Since there where the PP governs with absolute majority is impossible to carry out this proposal, the councilor of IU-V has chosen to go one step further and raise the matter to this High Commissioner for the defense of fundamental rights.
Adoración Peñas recalls that with the beginning of the economic crisis, the Regional Government, from its political and ideological logic, adopted a package of measures to deal with it, among which, due to its importance and effects, the abolition of pay Extraordinary meeting of December of that year to the thousands of staff on the payroll of CARM.
But there were other measures of that package that went unnoticed.
One of them affected a group as vulnerable as the elderly users of the residences of the elderly of the Region, which from that moment on began to include the extra payments they charged in the calculation base Which determines their monthly contribution as "public price" to residences;
A contribution that, until then, only took into account the twelve ordinary payments of the year.
As we know, Peñas recalls, officials affected by the suppression of the extra pay of December 2012 have recovered this income, and we claim that the recovery of rights that has finally reached the officials will extend and expand to the collective of people Older users of nursing homes.
A measure that could affect more than 200 residents of Lorca spread between the residences of San Diego and CASER, and about 2,500 in the Region of Murcia as a whole, users of senior residences (public or concerted).
What happened in 2012 with the users of the residences of the elderly of the Region of Murcia, affirms Peñas, contraverses in a simple way the provisions of the Spanish Constitution that in its article 50 states that: "the public powers will guarantee, through adequate pensions And periodically updated, economic sufficiency for citizens during the third age ... ".
It should be remembered that this "continued robbery" of our elderly people since 2012 emulated a similar initiative adopted by the government of the neighboring community of Castilla-La Mancha, then chaired by the now Defense Minister María Dolores de Cospedal.
Thereafter, recalls Adoración Peñas, a "comparative grievance" was established with respect to the rest of Spanish autonomous communities, where elderly people and those with disabilities living in a residence enjoy their extra payments, Article 139.1 of the Constitution, which guarantees the equality of all Spaniards regardless of where they reside.
The users of residences and their relatives report that the expenses of the extraordinary payments could cover expenses that do not cover their places of residence, such as death insurance, wheelchairs, clothing and footwear, prostheses or medicines that are Outside the health system.
The Council of IU-V, before the social and territorial abuse exposed and the refusal of the PP governments to repair it, hopes that the Ombudsman of Spain admits to this complaint and, after carrying out the timely investigation, CARM's Governing Council to carry out, as a matter of urgency, the necessary procedures so that the users of the residences of elderly people - public and concerted - recover their extraordinary payments, being no longer subject to the calculation base that determines the monthly contributions through Of a public price per place of resident, and, in addition, that this recovery of rights has retroactive effects and is returned to the largest residents what should never have been removed.
