The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, explained that these facilities would serve to disseminate the natural, cultural and historical values of the Regional Park and to raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation
The councilor of Lorca United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, has urged the City of Lorca to acquire the old headquarters of the Civil Guard located in the cove of the Siscal, now owned by a private individual.
The objective would be to convert it into an interpretation center of the Regional Park of Cabo Cope and Puntas de Calnegre through a collaboration agreement with the Ministry of Environment and the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment of the Autonomous Government.
Martín explained that this center would serve to disseminate the natural, cultural and historical values of the park and to raise awareness of the importance of conservation of the environment.
The park, known for its rich flora and fauna, is a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA), a Place of Community Importance (LIC) and part of the Natura 2000 network. Some of the 322 species of flora in the park are of great relevance Because they are Ibero-African, very scarce plants that survive from the time when Europe and Africa were united.
In the regional park there are also endangered or rare animal species such as the Moravian tortoise, Bonelli's eagle or trumpeter bullfinch, along with a large number of raptors, domestic birds, mammals and marine species.
Cabo Cope also has caves where remains of the Neolithic have been found, an argárico settlement in the Hill of the Cross, as well as the famous Tower of Cope of century XVI constructed to alert of the arrival by sea of pirates Berberis.
According to the mayor of IU-V, it is important to make known an exceptional set of great biological value with an interpretation center that also serves for research and protection of this space, unique in the Region of Murcia.
For this reason, its facilities could house rooms for temporary exhibitions, an audio-visual classroom and even a small astronomical observatory.
They would also be the starting point for guided tours that reveal to the public the meanings and interrelations of the natural heritage and create "sensitivity and environmental awareness".
For Martin, access to this center by motor vehicles should be "limited", encouraging walking or cycling to reach it, for which a deterrent parking should be enabled in the vicinity, but outside the protected environment.
Finally, Martin I take this opportunity to remind you once again that the PP municipal government team has not taken the necessary steps to comply with the ruling of the High Court of Justice of Murcia that annuls the modification of the General Plans of Urban Planning Aguilas and Lorca to adapt them to the construction of a large tourist resort in the Cope Marina.
"It is unfortunate that Jódar insists, against judicial decisions, to keep alive the urbanistic claims of the promoters of this megalomania project in the last virgin coastal plain of the Region of Murcia," instead of "defending and protecting the natural heritage of citizens Of Lorca, "Martín said.
