José Luis Álvarez Castellanos, regional coordinator of the United Left has stated today, May 11, when 6 years of the tragic events that caused the earthquakes, that Lorca in general and particularly a still very important number of victims of that sad day , Continue to suffer from the inefficiency of responsible politicians at both regional and local levels.

This is justified on the basis of four main points, namely:

The first is that there are still about 300 families who have not been able to return to their homes because either the reconstruction works have not been completed, as is the case of the San Fernando neighborhood from which we must remember the vicissitudes Which has been subjected in this process - or what is more serious, the case of the recently demolished buildings, Almendros and Avda. De Portugal, whose neighbors have seen the 6 years without the necessary support of the administrations, which They left everything in the hands of the Consortium of Insurance Compensation, with the consequent helplessness that supposed for the affected ones.

The second must necessarily refer to the manifest and tangible, but not sufficiently recognized, delay by the administrations of the investments for infrastructure and regeneration of neighborhoods launched through the conclusion of the 185 million euro CARM loan with the Bank European Investment Bank.

These investments, according to the conditions established, should be concluded by the end of 2017, however many of them will not even be started by that date.

In this regard IU anticipates that according to its calculations it is considered highly unlikely that even 50% of the works contemplated in the 2017 budget can be tendered (remember that in the budgets approved by CARM for 2017, the chapter of investments attributed to Lorca with charge to the EIB totals about 70 m €), and that the predictable scenario is that by the end of 2017 they will still be allowed to tender works for a total global amount of approximately 65 to 70 m.

So that according to IU would be jeopardizing the investment of a very high percentage (around 36%) of the loan that the European Investment Bank granted to the Autonomous Community to invest in Lorca on the occasion of damages caused by the earthquakes of 2011 .

The third event, which has been a constant throughout the 6 years, even provoking the reaction of some leaders of the PP during the year 2013, is what was agreed to denominate the "embalming of the aids" and the expense Of the money destined for this purpose in other payments of the administration;

That is to say the delay of many months in the payment of the official aid to the victims after its approval and after also a long and cumbersome process, that, of course, should change before future events.

Today, the delays continue and are expected to continue to be delayed.

And the fourth fact, very serious in the opinion of IU, is that there is still no answer to the rehabilitation and urbanistic recovery of the historic complex, which as we know is a key element of Lorca from the point of view of tourism, as well as historical, social and town.

All this, along with the delays in the reconstruction of some public buildings, such as the Fire Station or the works in the IES Ibáñez Martín and Ros Giner, or other important patrimoniales, as the case of the Casino;

Or the fraud caused by the Lorca Employment Plan, make the position of UI still very critical and question the management of the autonomous presidents (Valcárcel, Pedro Antonio and even the recent Fernando López Miras who has said little to date), The various directors of the branch who have held positions in these years, and the mayor Jódar, already out of his position after the appointment as a director.

Finally, IU applauds the will and effort of the Lorca people in this process, certainly far above the fact by the public authorities.
