The Reina Sofia Foundation distinguishes the City Council for the work developed to recover the historical heritage damaged by the earthquakes (22/05/2017)

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, on behalf of the city, received this morning in the Alzheimer's Center of the Reina Sofía Foundation, the diploma that distinguishes the City Council for their collaboration in the multiple projects that were funded by this entity After the earthquakes of 2011.

Fulgencio Gil has reported that the Board of Reina Sofía Foundation contributed to the financing of various actions for a total amount of 271,618 euros to assist in the reconstruction of several buildings that were seriously affected by the earthquakes that shook the municipality in 2011. It is about Of an initiative included in the three-year plan approved by the Her Majesty's Foundation until 2015.

It should be recalled that 91,618 euros were allocated to the non-profit organization San Diego Foundation to enable the integral rehabilitation of the Residence for Older Persons.

This contribution was key for the residence to reopen its facilities in June 2012. We are talking about a comprehensive and specialized care center for older people who needed an economic contribution for their equipment, which included furniture, internal communications and service material to Residents, among other issues.

The First Edil also stated that the Foundation contributed with financial resources, in particular 60,000 euros, to the recovery of the cultural heritage of our city, highlighting the financing of the project for the recovery of the Palace of Orchard Ruano, declared a Cultural Property (BIC) in 1993, being one of the buildings of greater solera of the urban helmet, that constitutes a relevant example of urban town raised at the end of century XIX.

The restoration of the building has allowed Lorca to have an exhibition space of singular presence, which stands as a reference point for the social and cultural activity of the city.

Fulgencio Gil recalled that the Reina Sofía Foundation also invested 60,000 euros to contribute to the restoration project of the Narciso Yepes Music Conservatory.

We are talking about a fundamental contribution so that the more than 450 students of the mentioned center could resume their classes in the facilities of the former Colegio La Purisima, which was severely damaged after the earthquakes of 2011. It is a building protected by its high value Which was able to resume its ordinary activity in 2014. It should be noted that this building, located in the heart of the historic center of the city, was the first building to host university studies in the sixteenth century, and is then attached to the University of Granada.

The Mayor has thanked the special interest that has always been shown by Lorca since the Royal House, and has been especially ratified by the attentions made precisely at the most difficult times for Lorca, such as the earthquakes of 2011 and the floods of 2012.
