The renovation work on the streets and urban areas adjacent to Juan Carlos I de Lorca Avenue, one of the main avenues of the city, "are advancing at a good pace towards the integral remodeling of the urban center of the city", Director General of Spatial Planning, Architecture and Housing, Laura Sandoval.
Sandoval and the Councilor for Development and Infrastructure of the City of Lorca, Ángel Meca, today visited the works in execution in the street Jose Espinosa Pomares, Journalist López Barnés, Alameda Menchirón and esplanade of the Station, which are part of the improvement project of Juan Carlos I. These actions have a budget of the regional government of 544.575 euros and are executed by the City.
Sandoval highlighted the "importance" of these works for the city of Lorca because "they will allow to integrally transform the urban center of the city and boost the social life and economic activity of the city."
And, furthermore, "they are a further step in the construction of the new Lorca, after the earthquakes of 2011, and is the result of work, coordination and effort of the Community and the City."
During their tour of the works, which affect an approximate area of ​​9,200 square meters, they verified the evolution of the works, which are at 90 percent execution.
In this area, all existing services of supply, waste, electricity, telephony, irrigation and gardening will be renewed and will be extended with others such as the implementation of the rainwater network and the installation of underground containers and a recharge point for electric vehicles.
The improvement of these streets and urban spaces also includes the renovation of the pavement with curb of concrete of color in sidewalks, that are practically finished, and hot bituminous mixture in causeways.
At the beginning of September, the paving of the road will begin in order not to affect traffic in the city, since the section of Juan Carlos I between Ă“valo and Alameda Menchirón is cut during the month of August, with access To the avenue from Jerónimo Santa Fe or Alameda de Cervantes through the streets José Espinosa Pomares and Alameda Menchirón.
Urban renewal of Juan Carlos I
These actions are part of a much larger project of integral renovation of the Juan Carlos I avenue of Lorca and its adjacent streets, which involves an investment by the Community of more than 5 million euros.
The works are financed by the Community within the action plan developed in the city by the European Investment Bank (EIB), and are executed by the City Council.
The remodeling of Juan Carlos I Avenue and its adjacent urban spaces are characterized by the importance they give to accessibility, sustainability, the promotion of more areas dedicated to pedestrians and green spaces and the provision of better services to improve the quality of Life of the Lorca.
Two new roundabouts will also be built, one at the intersection of Juan Carlos I Avenue and Fajardo el Bravo Street and another in connection with Santa Clara Avenue, and the streets Serrallo, Poet Carlos Mellado, Floridablanca, Plaza de Columbus and the Alamedas de la Constitución, Ramon y Cajal and his journey.
