The Municipality of Lorca recommends precaution to the neighbors before the orange level warning for rains scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday (09/08/2017)

The Deputy Mayor of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, has recommended to the population caution before the warning of orange level for rains scheduled from Wednesday at 9 pm and until 12 noon Thursday.

Montiel has announced that "the State Meteorological Agency has issued the notice for the Guadalentín Valley, including Lorca, Águilas, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, with a probability of between 40 and 70%, indicating the possibility of accumulated rainfall In an hour of up to 30 mm At the same time it has reported a warning of yellow level by storms for the same time slot.

The Vice Mayor said that "we all know of the danger of summer storms, so we must be prepared to know how to act in the face of such an emergency." We therefore offer our neighbors the following recommendations offered by the Service Municipal Emergency ":

In general, it is very important to remain alert to official information transmitted through radio stations and other digital media, and follow the indications given.

Self-protection measures to be taken in case of emergency due to heavy rains:

• Use the phone only to inform the authorities.

• Disconnect electrical appliances.

Save food and heating.

• Stay permanently informed through official media such as Twitter @ "112Lorca" or other media such as weather forecasts and the state of the situation.

• If the house is flooded, it is essential to abandon basements and low floors as soon as possible and disconnect the electrical energy using, preferably, lanterns for lighting.

• If you have to travel, try to travel, preferably, on main roads and highways.

• If you are in the countryside, you must move away from the rivers, torrents and low slopes and hills, avoiding, in turn, passing through flooded fords.

• Tips if you are in your vehicle:

• Investigate through the meteorological institute or civil protection of the risks of torrential rains.

Also use local stations.

• Do not leave the vehicle parked in areas that can be flooded, or where it can be washed away by a stream of water.

• When driving, do not cross flooded places.

A small depression can accumulate a lot of water.

If you do it with short speed and moving very slowly.

Check the brakes after crossing.

• Pay attention to landslides, sinks, sinks ...

• Avoid traveling at night.

• Know where the highest places are and how to reach them quickly.

• Leave the car if:

• The water starts to level up on the road.

• If the vehicle stalls.

• When crossing a current the water is above the axis of the wheels.

• When you find it difficult to open the door, exit through the windows.

Before the appearance of blizzards or heavy snowfall:

• If you are going outside, wear several warm and light garments, rather than a single garment of thick fabric.

Avoid tight clothing.

Allow air to circulate and act as an insulation.

Protect face, head and hands.

• Do not perform excessive physical exercises since the cold is not good for the heart.

• It is not advisable for the elderly and children to go outside.

• In the event of a blizzard: combination of cold air, snow and strong winds that reduce visibility, it is preferable to avoid exits or trips.

Storms in the field:

• Avoid staying on top of the hills and not take shelter under trees, especially if they are solitary.

• Do not lie on the ground.

• Do not sit on anything wet.

• Do not hold metallic objects.

• Avoid small buildings: sheds, tents, ...

• Away from wire fences, gates and other metal objects.

• If you are driving and are surprised by a storm, remember that a closed vehicle can be a good refuge.

In any case, slow down, extreme precautions and do not stop in areas where large amounts of water can flow.

• They are very dangerous: golf courses, sports grounds, swimming pools and lakes, wire fences, railway tracks, agricultural machinery.

• They are safe: houses with lightning rods, streets with nearby buildings and cars.

The danger of storms for people occurs mainly in the open.

However, in urban areas there is also a danger of lightning.

Storms in the city:

• In the street, the shelter of buildings protects against the risk of discharges.

• At home, care must be taken to ensure that there are no drafts, as they attract lightning.

Hence the recommendation to close doors and windows in case of a storm.

• It is also advisable to protect electrical appliances, computers, etc. by unplugging them from the mains and TV antenna to prevent them from being damaged by a voltage rise or causing electric shock.

• Be informed through a battery-operated radio receiver.

If you are struck by a storm and it starts to rain in a torrential manner, you may think that the risk of flooding exists and therefore it is advisable to take certain precautions.

Water thrombosis:

• Do not cross sections that are flooded with your vehicle.

The force of the water can drag you when you float the vehicle.

• Locate the highest points in the area where you are, as you may need to contact them in case of possible flooding.

• Tune local radio stations, which will surely inform you of the weather forecasts for the area you are in.
