40 Salamanca and Almeria make Lorca the beginning of his pilgrimage to Caravaca for the Holy Jubilee Year (10/08/2017)

The pilgrims have been received in the Council Hall by the Deputy Mayor, have traveled the historic center and attended a Mass in the church of Santiago, all accompanied by members of Lorca-Santiago as hosts

The Vice Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, received this morning an expedition of pilgrims and muleteers who will make from the City of the Sun the route to Caravaca on the occasion of the Holy Jubilee Year.

Specifically it was a group of 40 pilgrims from Salamanca and Almería who are part of the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago de la Plata, collective of the Salmantine population of Fuenterroble de Salvatierra.

During the last two decades this group has been organizing pilgrimages to Rome, Jerusalem, Santiago, Santo Toribio de Líbana or St. Olav in Norway, moving this 2017 to Caravaca.

The group has been received in Lorca by members of the Association Lorca-Santiago, who have explained the details of the route of the Argar linking the City of the Sun with Compostela.

Later the pilgrims visited the Hospitality of Lourdes, before visiting the historical center of Lorca carrying in a cart a figure of wood of more than 2 meters of the pattern of Spain.

In the Council Hall of the Consistory Montiel has welcomed and offered a sketch of some of the tourist attractions of the municipality as the Holy Week, the art of embroidery in passional biblical parades, cultural heritage or parties, in addition Of highlighting the connection of Lorca with the Camino de Santiago thanks to the great work developed by the Lorca-Santiago Association.

On the part of the pilgrims has taken the word Blas Rodríguez Boyero who has thanked the Lorca for his hospitality and made available to all the inhabitants of this city that pilgrimage to Santiago the population of Fuenterroble de Salvatierra.

He has also expressed the support of the visiting group to Lorca embroidery to be declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

After the reception the group went to the church of Santiago where they attended mass, before having lunch and begin the pilgrimage to Caravaca de la Cruz.
