The Councilor for the United Left-Greens, Gloria Martín, today denounced the use of minibuses to cover the intercity route Lorca-Almenara Shopping Center, which forces some passengers to travel crowded, standing and at risk for their safety and That they can not use safety belts or child restraint systems approved for minors, which he described as "serious".
Martín recalled that Article 9 of the General Circulation Regulation establishes that the number of people transported in a vehicle can not be higher than the seats authorized, which in the case of this type of vehicles is only 16.
The mayor regretted that the City Council continues without guaranteeing "at all times" the proper technical and safety conditions on public buses.
"In the last years the users of this means of transport have had to endure fires, vehicles that circulated with the doors open or without air conditioning, or that they were thrown to them in the middle of the journey by continuous damages", moaned Martín, for whom "Compromising the safety of travelers" is an "unacceptable" event.
In this regard, he pointed out that the traffic regulating Ordinance in Lorca does not include an epigraph on collective bus transport, so he asked for its amendment to be included in the regulations and the penalty system.
The councilor of IU-Greens has also demanded that the reasons why the company that in May was awarded the management of the urban transport service still does not operate in the municipality.
In that sense, he recalled the commitment to renew the fleet of buses "in a maximum of six months from the signing of the contract."
