The Municipal Socialist Group has assessed the implementation of the new urban transport system, which considers that it still does not live up to the expectations, needs and status of a city like Lorca, suffering from the same shortcomings as the previous system, which demonstrates the lack of interest of the PP Government team for public transport and the need to create a more modern, friendly and sustainable city.
The Municipal Socialist Group, through Councilman David Romera, has made an assessment of the implementation on September 1 of the new urban transport system promoted by the Popular Party in Lorca, after the use in situ of the same at rush hour of noon.
The balance is that the implementation of the new urban public transport system after so many years of waiting on the part of the population, is a resounding "fiasco", fruit of "improvisation and lack of interest in creating an attractive model and competitive of a modern and sustainable city ".
The Socialists have verified that there are "a series of second-hand buses running around that are absolutely empty, even at rush hour, because the population has not heard that the new service has been put into operation since it has not been carried out no information campaign or awareness by the City. "
Many neighbors have been surprised to see the new vehicles "not knowing very well why they were circulating, where they were going and what service they were providing," they say.
Romera has been able to verify on the spot that the new service suffers from the same shortcomings as the previous system, "which is as surprising as disappointing".
It emphasizes that there is still no information in the stops as this is limited to a poster with colors specifying lines, departure times and little more, which is impractical for visitors and elderly people, there are many stops where such a poster has not even been placed or remain the schedules of the previous concession.
Neither have the canopies removed by the regeneration works in La Viña or San Cristóbal have been relocated or new ones have been placed where they do not exist so users have to stand, under the sun or rain;
no general plan has been designed with the layout of the itineraries of the different lines and the public buildings and services that are close;
also in the stops have been placed indicators of connection between the different lines nor is there individual information of each of the lines as it happens in every city of a certain category (itinerary, stops, connections, schedules);
it is not reported the incidents that the official itineraries are provoking the works of urban regeneration or alternative routes.
Likewise, the promised electronic panels that inform users of the remaining time for the arrival of the next bus have not been installed and some canopies are dirty like the one in the central Plaza de Colón.
Regarding the vehicles, Romera indicates that "all are second hand", that there is also no information on the new features of the service that should be analogous to the one in the stops, and that there is no public address service should announce the arrival of the next stop in order to guide users, especially those coming from outside of Lorca.
He also indicated that for the lines connecting the center of Lorca with the Castle or the Historic Quarter, a minivan vehicle is being used, with the limitations this entails.
The deficiencies also have to do with the frequency of buses, since for the main line that crosses the whole city (the one that connects Apolonia with the Hospital Rafael Méndez) has been a frequency of 30 minutes when it has always been 20, and that the Historic Center line should have a higher frequency in the morning since it is the administrative and commercial center of the city.
Also lament from the PSOE that all the lines leave from the Oval of Santa Paula ("we ignore the situation of this stop that must be the most important of the city"), which will force to the population to carry out continuous transfers, that cores as important as La Hoya have been left out when there is a line that goes to the Polygon (de Saprelorca), and that they are disconnected the Barrios Altos, the new equipment area of Sutullena and the railway and bus stations.
As far as the formal aspects are concerned, many Lorca have noticed that in the posters promoting the new service, an image of the Cathedral of Murcia has been placed, which has nothing to do with Lorca even when counting the a city with large monumental buildings such as the Collegiate Church of San Patricio, which has nothing to envy the Murcian cathedral.
In short, according to the Socialist mayor, the new urban public bus transport system launched following the model of the Popular Party in Lorca is "a fiasco, a disappointment because the PP does not bet on public services" after the expectations created .
What has come into operation on 1 September "is not up to the needs and dimensions of a city of the importance of Lorca" since "it does not improve the previous system, contrary to what is planned in the Urban Mobility Plan, so it is still not a modern service, comfortable, functional or attractive for Lorca to take the bus again, leave the car at home and develop a more balanced and sustainable city model.
Hence, last Friday, day 1 in the peak rush hour occupancy levels in bus stops are strikingly low when the streets of Lorca are crowded with private vehicles.
