The Mayor of Lorca and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of the CARM have held a working meeting with representatives of the Professional Association of Hospitalers of Lorca (Hostelor) in which they have analyzed the evolution of the sector and the growth of the arrival of visitors to the City of Sun
The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the Councilor for Tourism, Culture and Environment of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Javier Celdrán, held this morning a working meeting with representatives of the Professional Association of Hosteliers of Lorca ( Hostelor) in which they have analyzed the evolution of the sector and the growth of the arrival of visitors to the City of Sun, that has been of 8.7 percent in between January and July.
In total, 34,000 visitors have been surpassed in the first seven months of the year and "Lorca consolidates its growth, increasing every year the number of people who come to the city to enjoy the culture, its heritage, gastronomy or various events sports that welcomes, "said the Minister of Culture, who also highlighted" the important seasonal effect and arrival of visitors that has had the Ciudad del Sol related to sports, thanks to the Sports Tourism Plan and the work developed by the City Council " .
"The growth in the number of visitors to Lorca is continuous year after year and that is also noticeable in the creation of employment in the tourism and hospitality sector. We have to work together to continue driving the sector and take advantage of opportunities such as the recovery of its heritage , linking it with other tourism products such as sport or gastronomy, "said Javier Celdrán.
The Mayor of Lorca stressed that "we have to join forces among all stakeholders to ensure that the city continues to consolidate as an important tourist reference." Lorca has great cultural attractions that make the City of the Sun attracts more and more tourists. they are surprised by our monumental heritage, but not only the culture of tourism in Lorca, but increasingly sporting events are attracting more visitors and families, so both factors have a positive impact on our hotel business.
During the meeting, the Mayor and the Councilor invited the representatives of Hostelor to make their contributions and work on new initiatives that allow to continue increasing the arrival of tourists throughout the year.
Likewise, both the Mayor and the Counselor thanked the businessmen for their work to improve the quality of the tourism and hospitality offer.
The revitalization of tourism in Lorca has led to the creation of new jobs.
One of the indicators that reflects this is the increase in hotel contracts registered in the period January-August of this year, which have reached 7,222, 2.3% more than in the same period last year.
