Spain is the country of the European Union most affected by forest fires.
In May of this year, a joint motion presented by the municipal group Citizens agreed that the City Council, in collaboration with the competent directorates-general, would commit to intensify the dissemination of all preventive fire measures.
In the next full September Antonio Meca will present a motion relative to the creation of lagoons or reservoirs for use in the extinction of forest fires.
"The fire in May 2015 Sierra de Almirez (Zarcilla de Ramos), in June of this year another fire in forest land in the place of the Cañada de Cazorla, on July 3 the fire in the Sierra de la Torrecilla, have shown that the availability of water nearby is extremely vital, "said Councilman.
The Guadalentín Valley region is the driest place in Spain since the beginning of the 21st century.
In forest fire prevention infrastructures, the technical standard is called water points distributed throughout the territory, whether natural or artificial where water accumulates.
Antonio Meca explains that "in the face of such a danger in this area, the existence of a lagoon or reservoir at the confluence of the Luchena and Churrilla rivers in the area of ​​Zarcilla de Ramos, and in the river Vélez near the Baños de la Fuensanta to serve of hydrant for helicopters, would be a solution to alleviate the lack of sufficient water for extinction if another fire were declared ".
This would be possible because in these rivers there is permanent flow throughout the year even in periods of extreme drought.
It would be pertinent in the case of the Vélez river above all this accumulation since the water that comes from Los Baños de la Fuensanta is lost when it reaches the area of ​​La Parroquia absorbed by the sands.
