Periago warns that the daily weight that support Oenegés and social groups of the municipality "is disproportionate" and are "overflowing" because the Popular Party has weakened year after year budgets to Social Services
The PSOE councilor in the city of Lorca, Andrea Periago has called for the recovery of a Sectoral Council of Social Services to address the high poverty rates in Lorca.
Socialists want to continue opening channels of participation, with the aim of recovering all those bodies of participation that the PP has been responsible for eliminating during their years of government.
In this way, recalls the socialist mayor, the PSOE succeeded in recovering in 2016 the Sports Sector Council and, more recently, Equality, bodies that were eliminated by the PP in 2010, and have recently managed to recover the socialists in Lorca.
The PSOE proposes the recovery of this council, and they ask for it within the framework, they say, of a "situation of special necessity", because they warn that "there are plenty of reasons that justify the need to give priority to the creation of this body."
Periago says that they are "many indicators that tell us about an unequal Lorca, affected by the lack of opportunities," and with the warning, in addition, several reports that year after year, leave Lorca "at the head of large cities with higher poverty rates. "
The latest report from AIS Group shows that Lorca is the fourth poorest city among the 144 municipalities in Spain with more than 50,000 inhabitants, ahead of Murcia and Cartagena.
From the PSOE they reproach the PP who do not want to attend to these reports that come to recognize an "obvious reality" and that the popular in Lorca "are determined to hide."
To make them aware "once and for all", Periago invites the current Mayor and his councilors to attend "even for a moment only" the activity that daily groups and social oenegés Caritas or Red Cross, who feel "absolutely overwhelmed ".
Periago says the weight of these groups and Oenegés is "disproportionate", and all because the PP weakens the budget of Social Services "year after year."
The mayor warns that it is only necessary to see as each year the "insignificant game" that "falls short", and the evident proof is that "every year they are forced to approve budgetary changes at the beginning of the exercise due to the great demand that there are already the few resources that they allocate ".
The mayor highlights the special usefulness of this Sectoral Council of Social Services.
An organ with which "to return to the center of municipal management social policies" and with which to prioritize social action in the area of public investments. "From the PSOE ensure that Lorca needs a body to participate in studies and initiatives related to these issues and the social needs of the population. In short, a permanent forum for information, debate and analysis on the development of the City in relation to social action.
In the PSOE we are convinced that only with the participation and the effort of all, we will be able to tackle this situation of structural poverty that affects a good part of our population.
