The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has called on the PP government team to address the necessary improvement of the ornamental lighting of the sculpture of the embroiderer and surroundings of the Plaza Concha Sandoval, in the face of works of remodeling that the consistory plans to carry out in this urban space of the city.
Following the recent announcement, Garcia Jiménez contacted the artist from Lorca author of the monument to the embroiderer, Mrs. María Dolores Fernandez Arcas, with whom he agreed on the idea of taking advantage of the remodeling of this square to install a sustainable lighting that "Finally, extol and magnify this work so characteristic of our city and our history."
The socialist mayor raises this complaint within the framework of a project that the Socialist Party has prepared for over a year and a half to enhance the tourist attraction of Lorca through improvements in the ornamental lighting of plazas and monuments.
After a study carried out by the Socialist Municipal Group on the state of conservation and maintenance of the sculptures and urban monuments of Lorca, in March 2016 the PSOE Councilor claimed a project of sustainable lighting and maintenance, aimed at improving quality urban landscape of our squares and historical places, "to highlight the uniqueness of these elements, and enhance the tourist attraction of our city, so neglected by the current government team of the Popular Party.
The mayor regrets that the PP has not done "no case" of this project of monumental and artistic lighting for Lorca and, therefore, prefer to continue in the "mediocrity and cultural void" maintaining the image of a city "dull and neglected" that they have generated.
At the same time, he reproaches the "contempt" that the Mayor and his councilors maintains to illustrious people of Lorca "by forgetting and neglecting in this way most of the urban sculptures."
In addition to improving the lighting of the Plaza de la Bordadora, the socialist mayor also demands performances to magnify The Columns of the Alameda de la Constitución;
the bust of Eliodoro Puche, in the placetaBarandillas;
the sculptural complex of the Tanners Square, or in the historic Negrito fountain, the work of the Belgian engineer C. Marsillon, and one of the few eclectic ornamental works in our city.
The busts of the torero Lorca, Pepín Jiménez;
of the musician Narciso Yepes, or of the parson Antonio Llamas, in front of the Church of the Carmen;
sculpture to the emigrant in the hamlet of La Paca;
the wake of the relief of the Hebrew people, in front of the Chapel of the Rosary;
the source of the Plaza de San Vicente, or even singular trees, such as the olive tree of the Plaza del Caño, are other sculptural elements that, according to the Socialist mayor, "pass unnoticed sadly for the passers-by, lacking an ornamental lighting capable of extolling its appeal and solera ".
