The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, and the president of the Association Musical Heritage and Friends of Music of Lorca, Antonio Manzanera, presented this morning the V Festival of Ancient Music and Baroque Lorca, to be held in emblematic buildings of the city during the month of October with 10 concerts in which local, regional and national groups will perform, conferences, courses and masterclass.
Specifically, this program includes both Gregorian, Renaissance and Baroque music.
In addition, the V edition of this Festival incorporates important novelties like the change of month of the realization of the same, since it happens from November to October;
the inclusion of pedagogical concerts for schoolchildren;
the increase in the number of courses, from one to four;
the international character that is acquiring the Festival, since they come interpreters of different countries like Italy, Belgium and Russia, among other Spanish provinces like Madrid, Seville, Granada, Albacete, Ciudad Real or Murcia.
In addition, it is noteworthy that this year for the first time there has been a concert-presentation, which took place on September 29 in Plaza del Caño and which had a large influx of public.
The main objective of this Festival is to help revitalize the old town of Lorca and churches and monuments as unique concert halls and show music from the Middle Ages to the XVIII century.
In many cases it is intended that the music that is shown is related to Lorca, is the case of the San Patricio Musical Archive, historical organ of San Francisco, the baroque traverso found in the Palace of Guevara or the paintings of the eighteenth century in the Sanctuary Patronal.
In addition, the initiative, which this year includes 17 acts, promotes the visit of citizens and trainees from other parts of the Region and provinces, so it is becoming a reference of the most important ancient music festivals in southern Spain.
On October 13, 14 and 15 will take place at the Municipal School of Music the first course of the Festival: "Canto histórico", given by Pedro Pérez, countertenor, and Natascha Chyruchyk, pianist.
Also on Friday October 13 will be held at the Orchard Ruano at 20:30 hours the conference "Iconography Baroque. Windows to the past" by Andrés Alberto Gómez.
Another lecture entitled "The Flute in the Baroque, a close example in Lorca" given by Agostino Cirillo will take place on October 16th at the Orchestra Ruano.
On October 19, 20 and 21 the Municipal School of Music will host the course "Ministriles Ensemble" by the bastards Wim Becu and Juan González.
On Monday October 23 will be held in the Orchard Ruano by Pedro Pérez the conference "Contratenores and castratis: the origins of bel canto".
The days 27, 28 and 29 will be held the course of Gregorian chant to be taught by Juan Torres Durán at the Municipal School of Music.
As for the concerts that this Festival collects are the following: Concert commented for schoolchildren "The guitar tells his life" by Felipe Sánchez Mascuñano and will be held in the Church of Santo Domingo at 11 o'clock;
concert "Spanish music through the pulsating string" that will take place on October 19 in the Church of Santa Ana and Santa Magdalena (Convent of the Poor Clares) from 20:30 hours;
on Friday, October 20 at 11:00 am in the Church of San Francisco there will be another commented concert for schoolchildren on the songs in the court of Alfonso X the Wise carried out by Eduardo Paniagua and César Carazo, also the same day and made by the same professionals will take place in the Church of the Virgin of the Huertas at 20:30 hours the concert "The Scriptorium of Alfonso X, cantigas and songs andalusíes of century XIII".
On Saturday October 21 at 12 noon in San Patricio there will be a concert of ensemble of ministriles directed by Wim Becu and at 20:30 in the Chapel of the Virgin of the Alcazar, also in San Patricio, will be offered the concert "Goldberg Variations "by JSBach BY Andrés Alberto Gómez;
an organ concert, "El gallante David: Spanish music for organ in the mid-eighteenth century", by Javier Sáez, will be held on Thursday, October 26th at 8:30 pm in the Church of San Francisco.
the Chapel of Santo Domingo will host on October 28th at 8:30 pm the concert "Arda il mio core" performed by Pedro Pérez, countertenor, and Sara Águeda to the harp;
finally, the final clipping to the concert block is put on a Gregorian Mass with a performance by the Schola Gregoriana, which will take place at 12 noon in San Patricio and is held on the occasion of the V Centenary of the death of Cardinal Cisneros (1436 1517 ).
This Festival of Ancient Music in Lorca, which is already consolidated in our city, aims to give live Lorca and visitors live the ancient and baroque music using monumental and historical spaces, rescue and publicize works by Lorca authors or related to Lorca, as well as cultural dynamizar, especially the old part of our city. In addition, the Festival MVABAL, studies to use for other editions, other historical places of the city like the Source of the Gold, the Palace of Guevara, the Cloister of the Convento de la Merced, the Medieval Wall, the Church of Santa Maria or the Castle, venues very appropriate for this initiative that have a very special acoustics for this type of concerts.
