The Governing Council has approved the conclusion of the contract for the construction of a new bridge on the road RM-D8 on the Rambla Biznaga, in the municipality of Lorca, with a budget of 1,929,240 euros.
This infrastructure is necessary to increase the road safety of drivers crossing the rambla, as avenues of water of a certain intensity cause the road to be cut off and put the vehicles at risk of being carried away by the current.
The rambla of Biznaga is an important tributary of the Guadalentín river that collects the waters coming from the nearby rambles, such as the Torrecilla, Béjar and part of the Nogalte, and can accumulate a very important flow, as it happened in the flood of St. Wenceslas, in 2012.
The bridge will have a length of 110 meters and 10 meters in width, with a two-lane carriageway, 3.2 meters, and shoulders of 1.30 meters.
The work will be financed in the annuities 2017, with 100,000 euros, and 2018, with 1,829,240 euros.
In addition, the regional government will carry out another work to expand the drainage system for the RM-11 (Lorca-Águilas) and RM-621 (Lorca-Purias) roads, which cross the Rambla de Biznaga, of 2,000,286 euros.
This second action aims to increase the drainage capacity of the boulevard and avoid the effects and damages that may be caused by possible floods.
