The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, today called on the City of Lorca to proceed to change the name of the football complex "Angel Maria Villar", located in the hamlet Lorca La Hoya and formerly known as "Los Tollos."
For Martin, it is not appropriate that these facilities bear the name of the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), prosecuted under the 'Operation Soule', a corruption case that has convulsed the world of football in the last months.
The mayor of IU-Verdes recalled that Villar, involved in numerous scandals after 29 years in office, is charged with the crimes of "corruption among private individuals, falsification of public documents, unfair administration, misappropriation and possible uprising of property" and is in "freedom under the payment of a bond of 300,000 euros," for an alleged looting of more than 45 million to the institution he presided.
Therefore, Martin believes that the football complex should honor a person "without blemish" and committed to the sport king in the locality.
