The councilor for this training, Gloria Martín, has accused the local government team of "assembling" a gang of low-cost laborers who pay around 450 euros for six months, instead of expanding their maintenance service with skilled workers with decent working conditions and retribution
The councilor of the United Left-Greens in Lorca, Gloria Martín, today accused the City Council of promoting precarious work, by entrusting the students of the training and employment workshops repairing the public thoroughfare that should be undertaken by qualified employees and working conditions.
The 32 students benefiting from the Lorca Youth Guarantee program, subsidized with 350,000 euros by the Employment and Training Service (SEF) of the Region of Murcia, will charge around 450 euros for six months, which Martin described as a practice " close to the farm ".
For IU-Greens, it is normal for each youngster to train for several months together with a worker who learns the professional practice.
However, what City Council intends is to have a squad of "low cost" peons, supervised by municipal employees, under the guise of learning programs.
For the mayor of IU-Greens these young people are victims of the neoliberal model implemented by the Popular Party: garbage contracts, temporality and precariousness.
In that sense, he lamented that the City Council serves as a "bad example", instead of developing an exemplary work that reduces the inequalities generated by the current market model.
For this reason, its formation will raise a proposal to the next Municipal Plenary so that the City council extends its maintenance service in a way that is in charge of "preventive and corrective work that requires the public spaces of the municipality".
Martín advocated that the workers of this service have "professional qualification" and are applied "the most beneficial working and remuneration conditions of the collective agreement of legal application at sectoral and territorial level."
The justification for the extension of this service is due to the serious deterioration suffered by most neighborhoods: broken or slippery sidewalks, raised bins, poorly furnished urban furniture or even steel cables poking up the public road, it is necessary to add works that are not correctly marked and that dot the whole city.
The mayor of IU-Verdes explained that only in the last month his training has been aware of four falls of neighbors who needed health care.
Some even had bone fractures.
For Martin, this is a result of the maintenance deficit on the part of the City "that is responsible for maintaining in perfect condition the assets of its ownership."
For this reason, it opted for a service of maintenance and repair of the street "professionalized" and with sufficient capacity to address the multiple needs of the municipality, which also generates "quality employment".
Martín also criticized the policy of "cost savings" applied by the municipal government team of PP in the works that are carried out in the city.
"They are executed poorly or are used materials of poor quality that, in a few months of completion, need repairs," he lamented.
