The Councilors of Health and Education of the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz and Francisco Montiel, respectively, visited this morning the students of the Colegio Pérez de Hita who have participated in the "Project Brocolín", a pedagogical activity set in motion by this area of ​​municipal management and that includes games, reading and music to promote healthy eating habits among the smallest.
María del Carmen Ruiz has reported that "the schools of the municipality, at the initiative of the Department of Health of the City of Lorca, have included in their program of activities for students of first and second of primary promotion of consumption of fruits and vegetables, through the pedagogical workshop "Project Brocolín" This workshop includes reading the story "The Adventures of Brocolín", the "Game of colors" and other activities to learn the importance of eating well. , Brocolín and three very special collaborators.
The Councilor for Health explained that "the workshop has a duration of 45 minutes and ends with the delivery to students of a bag containing the story Brocolín, a piece of broccoli for cooking, a recipe with recipes for children and the bases for the competition.The aim is to involve the families, so it is proposed, through the students, to finish the Brocolín workshop at home, creating a recipe with broccoli. of his plate to Broccoli Passion will be able to obtain a gift that will be the plush of Brocolín ".
Ruiz has indicated that "in this sense, schools can also get a prize if they encourage families to participate, as it will reward the two schools that record more participation of their students in sending photos of their dishes. will enjoy the "Frutoteca", a project of the association "5 a day", aimed at all primary school students, and with the same goal as Brocolín: promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

The Brocolín workshop will be in progress throughout the school year and can be requested through the City Hall.
The activity has been created by Brócoli Pasión, a platform of Sakata Seed Ibérica, a seed and vegetable improvement company, and is aimed at first and second grade students.
According to the latest studies, 45% of the child population is obese and overweight, seriously affecting growth and cognitive development.
For this reason, in 2013 the project was born.

In recent years, many farmers and companies have specialized in this super vegetable.
The Brocolín Project is fortunate to have the collaboration of some of these companies, such as Luis Jiménez, Verco Export, Hoyamar and Sacoje.
All of them prepare the boxes of broccoli and make them available to the centers.
