It is an initiative promoted by the Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, which aims to continue promoting the liberation of spaces in the area of the historic center to increase leisure areas for citizens.
The Town Planning Councilor in the City of Lorca, Saturnina Martinez, reported that the City Council has begun the procedure to obtain the necessary space for the construction of a new green area in the historic case.
It is, in particular, to enable the establishment of an area of leisure and entertainment that would be located next to the church of Santiago, a temple that has benefited from an extraordinary process of restoration after the severe landslides that suffered as a result of earthquakes of the year 2011.
Satur Martinez has indicated that we are talking about a green area in which we have been working for several years, and now, thanks to the release of municipal economic resources that allows us the most recent budget modification, we will be able to execute.
For this in the course of the Plenary Session of the City Council that takes place this morning we have approved with the unanimity of all political groups with municipal representation a motion to that effect.
They are obtained, in particular 190.3 m2, which, added to another 137 m2 corresponding to a property of annexed municipal ownership, total a total of 327.3 m2.
The Town Planning Councilor explained that this project includes an initial investment of 33,017.43 euros, which will be used to acquire two buildings adjacent to the temple of Santiago.
This intervention has been accelerated recently by express request of the Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, who has considered this matter as a priority action, given its particular positive impact in the area.
In fact, the objective is that the obtaining of the space is finally approved before the end of the year to accelerate the process as much as possible.
Satur Martinez has reported that the intervention now promoted by the Plenary Session of the City Council corresponds to the provisions of the Special Plan for Integral Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPRI).
It constitutes an outstanding example of the line of action that from the Municipal Administration is materializing in the historic center.
It should be remembered that due to the special idiosyncrasy of the monumental Lorca, it is very complex to be able to enable this type of green areas or open spaces in the historic center.
These are streets, in many cases, narrow and narrow, in which are located properties whose ownership is under discussion or under situations of great complexity, which damage the maintenance of these buildings in the conditions that should.
The Town Planning Edil has anticipated that once the administrative process of obtaining the urban space in question is completed, the Consistory has the objective of proceeding to the necessary works for the configuration of a green area for the use and enjoyment of citizens, that, in addition, will also result in improving the urban perimeter in which it is located, complementing the actions that have already materialized in the church of Santiago.
