The councilor of this formation, Gloria Martin, criticized the Order by which the PP Government has reduced its useful life from 25 to 15 years.
He also explained that the farmers are making minimal use of the Hinojar plant because they do not want to assume the cost of the purines
Councilor for United Left-Greens, Gloria Martin, today warned of the "danger of closure" that looms over the only cogeneration and slurry treatment plant that remains operational in Lorca, located in the district of Hinojar.
Martin recalled the plants of Hinojar and Tercia (the latter currently dismantled), were initially promoted and protected by the Ministry of the Environment.
However, as a result of the reform of the electricity sector, these facilities suspended their activity after the announcement of the central government of the PP to reduce 40% the aid to the generation of renewable energy.
About thirty workers were dismissed.
After the ruling of the Supreme Court that ended the cut in cogeneration premiums perpetrated by the PP government, the Hinojar plant renewed its activity last May, after three years without operation.
But the Executive of Rajoy, committed, according to Martin, in the closure of these plants, approved last June a new Order by which reduces its useful life of 25 to 15 years.
In the case of Hinojar, which employs eight workers, this deadline is met on December 31, so "will be forced to close despite having been inactive for three years," explained the mayor of IU- Green.
Martín recalled that the closure of these facilities would mean "a huge environmental problem" since its function is to treat waste that is currently being poured into the field, with the consequent filtration to the subsoil and contamination of aquifers.
In this regard, the mayor of IU-Greens has been in contact with the national deputy of IU, Ricardo Sixto, president of the Energy Commission of Congress, who has shown "full willingness" to meet with those affected and agree on actions in this regard .
No slurry to treat
But the reduction of its useful life is not the only threat that this plant has to face.
As Martin has learned, at this time, the plant has many difficulties in obtaining slurry because farmers are making minimal use of it.
Apparently these claim that the company responsible for the plant, EDF Fenice Ibérica, take charge of the cost of slurry shipments from the hatcheries to the Hinojar.
Therefore, Martin has also requested the intermediation of the City Council so that both actors reach an agreement that allows the slurry to be treated in the plant "instead of pouring massively into the Lorca field".
In this regard, he recalled that the facilities of Tercia and Hinojar treated "196,000 tons of organic waste of pigs per year."
Finally, the mayor of IU-Greens has insisted on the need for the local government team of the PP "reactivate" the conciliation table of residential and livestock land uses, in order to address "with intelligence" the regulation of the sector in Lorca.
