They ensure that if the announced public consultation is finally held, the socialists will defend the option of maintaining this infrastructure that, due to its architectural singularity and its sentimental link with the neighbors of Santa Quiteria, Virgen de las Huertas and nearby councils, should not move from its current location because its location is compatible with the construction of the new Central Round.
The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, David Romera has expressed concern about the immediate future of the Puente de la Torta, a unique and emblematic element of the city that joins the urban center with its pedestrian walkway and the Alamedas with the neighborhoods of Santa Quiteria, Virgen de las Huertas and nearby councils.
Romera recalled that Mayor Gil Jódar, at the last meeting of the City's Social Council, explained that the solutions involve keeping the bridge in its current location or changing it.
The socialist mayor says that this second option would involve, through a complex technical procedure, unlock the bridge from its current location, lift it with large cranes, move it, rotate it and relocate it in the central median of the Ronda, parallel to it, so that it remains as mere ornamental element.
Romera believes that "if the technicians consider as one of the valid options for the future Central Round to save the Puente de la Torta, whether the bypass runs under the bridge through the construction of entrance and exit ramps, we do not understand how other more radical measures that may even mean that the structure of this centenary bridge could be damaged "
The Socialists are committed to the integral preservation of the centennial Puente de la Torta as an architectural and sentimental heritage, and to integrate it into the new Central Round so that it can remain a place of passage for hundreds of neighbors.
Romera says that if the bridge is transferred to the median of the Central Round as an ornamental element, "it will lose its functionality and a connection point will be eliminated between the city center and the neighborhoods of Santa Quiteria, Virgen de las Huertas and nearby councils. "
The question, he adds, "also has a sentimental roots".
"Where will the Patron of Lorca go on September 8 when she has to leave her sanctuary to visit our city?"
Romera calls for the complete preservation of the Puente de la Torta in its current location, its restoration and value, because it can be a visually very attractive milestone in the layout of the Central Round as the roads run under it, while "Lorca can to give in this case a lesson in the conservation of the historical heritage integrated of a modern and functional infrastructure ".
They ensure that if the announced public consultation is finally held, the socialists will defend the maintenance of this infrastructure that should not be moved from its current location because its location is compatible with the construction of the new Central Round.
