The councilor of IU-Green in the City of Lorca, Peñas Adoration, will present at the next municipal meeting on November 27 an initiative in defense of the Murcian public university (UMU and UPCT) and fundamentally of its students, who it will be extended to the plenary bodies of a good part of the municipalities of the Region through the councilors of their political formation.

IU-V intends that the local government requires the regional government an in-depth review of the public prices paid by university students for the degrees and masters (habilitantes and no habilitantes) in the public universities of Murcia.

Adoración Peñas argues that the economic crisis, the precariousness of work, the growing poverty and the misery wages that many workers in Lorca and the Region of Murcia charge, together with the increasing public rates and prices of university degrees and master's degrees, make more and more unattainable for many families the possibility of paying for the studies at the public university of thousands of students, and that this reality should not be alien to local administrations.

The councilor of IU-V collects in this initiative the demand that last November 14 made the Rector of the UMU, José Orihuela, to the President of the CARM, Fernando López Miras, in the context of the 75 years of the start-up of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UMU with the inauguration in its headquarters of the largest periodic table of the elements.

Rector Orihuela took advantage of the occasion to demand from López Miras a review of public rates and prices to "adjust them to the reality that surrounds us", in clear reference to what students from public universities in Andalusia pay, where the price of university credits per subject is three euros cheaper, the public price of the master's degree is half of what our UMU students pay and the price of non-habilitative master's degrees is one-fourth of those paid by students from Murcia.

Adoration Peñas argues that if a number of municipalities in the Region of Murcia decide to take these demands of the Rector of the UMU in defense of their students, the regional government of the PP should be more receptive to them.
