Antonio Meca: "the musicians of the Municipal Band are full-fledged workers and the City Council has to quote for them" (21/11/2017)

The municipal group Ciudadanos will present a motion at the next plenary session in November to regularize the Municipal Band musicians in work material.

Councilman Antonio Meca asks "what difference there is between a musician who teaches at the Municipal School of Music and the same one who plays at the acts or performances of the Municipal Band." The government team has to end the forty years in a situation irregular of the musicians of the band ".

In City Council according to Mecca "has to demand" the association that has been commissioned the management of the band that "discharges workers and listed by them as an indispensable condition to renew the agreement, as it does with teachers of the music school".

The problem that has dragged on for many years is a consequence of the obsolete idea of not considering musicians as workers with the right to social coverage like other municipal employees.

And there is the circumstance that there are members of the Municipal Band that after 40 years of service have not paid for this activity or a single day.

From the regional executive is working on the design of a regulatory rule of the bands, which can not enter into contradiction with the state regulation on Labor and Social Security, which must be met in any case.

In this motion Meca also intends "that the government team urge the Regional Government to initiate the necessary procedures so that the Regional Assembly resumes the development and approval of the Regional Law of Music in the Region of Murcia, which has been parked since 2014".
