IU-V highlights that the poetic association "Espartaria" has been waiting for more than half a year to pay a subsidy for an action carried out in June of last year

Pedro Sosa, Spokesman of the Municipal Group of IU-Greens, appeared this morning before the media to denounce the difficulties that a cultural association in Lorca is having - the poetic group Espartaria - to collect the amount of a 2,000 euros subsidy with the to pay for a poetic musical recital held in June of last year in the Plaza de Calderón and in which a large group of poets from different parts of Spain took part.

Sosa argues that the delay in this payment is compromising before this group of artists the good name of Lorca, its City Council and the group promoting the activity - Espartaria - for an unpaid performance that is part of the program "Trends Summer Fest Lorca 17 ", developed last summer in our city with more than twenty cultural and musical performances.

The councilor of IU-V says that after the unsuccessful efforts made by Espartaria before the Department of Culture, the promoters of this event got in touch with IU-V asking for their mediation to unblock the payment, and that after several conversations with the councilor responsible now communicate us that the payment of that activity falls on a private company Lorca that sponsored the event.

Sosa affirms that if the local government does not have sufficient authority to force the sponsoring company to assume the cost of its commitments, when it has also been made free publicity in municipal brochures as a company concerned with the local culture, it is best to dispense with it in the future, but that immediately solves this problem.

Beyond this example, and taking advantage of the case reported, the councilor of IU-V intends an in-depth review of the policy of subsidies that is practiced in the City of Lorca.

Sosa states that Lorca should have its own subsidy regulations, but, with or without regulations, the PP government is obliged to subject its actions in this area to the General Subsidies Law and the Regulations that develop it.

In this sense, it points out that the law establishes as a common rule that subsidies should be subject to procedures and calls for "competitive concurrence", and only direct subsidies are exceptionally acceptable, but this City Council, Sosa maintains, has made the exception be the rule and that the rule is the exception, so that the subsidies that are given in Lorca are often "funny concessions" councilman on duty guided by their tastes, friendships and hobbies.

We must give a turn of one hundred and eighty degrees in this policy, and to that end the councilor of IU-V announces the intention of his group to raise in the next plenary a motion to approve a regulation of subsidies of the City of Lorca to offer guarantees for all the associations of Lorca, which is presided over by equality and impartiality, and that improves the management and processing of these aids.
