The Socialists again denounce the third world situation of suburban services and consider that the poor quality of the service means that the transport by train is not competitive with the private vehicle and that the commuter trains have lost a million users in five years.
The councilor of the PSOE, David Romera has returned to denounce the "third world situation" in which is the train service of Cercanías that covers the line Murcia-Lorca-Águilas, managed by Renfe and Adif.
The council ensures that the complaints of users are "continuous" because their "unfortunate conditions affect hundreds of travelers every day."
Lorca has "one of the worst railway infrastructure in Spain as there is not a kilometer of double track or electrified, and use some trains that have an age of" over 35 years, which are polluting, noisy, uncomfortable and even have leaks "
It is, says Romera, an obsolete infrastructure, which can not be competitive compared to other transport systems such as the highway, which has led to the fact that in the last five years, the Cercanías of the Alicante-Murcia core have lost more than one million of travelers (it has gone from 4.675.000 travelers in 2012 to 3.624.100 in 2016).
These advantages, says the Socialist councilor, "can not be enjoyed by the citizens of Lorca and the Region of Murcia" because "in rail, we are condemned to be second-class citizens, we have to be supporting every day the unfortunate conditions in which is the Cercanías service "after years in which the governments of the PP, both in Murcia and Madrid," have subjected us to the most absolute abandonment when directing investments in railway modernization to other regions of the country " .
To end this situation, from the PSOE "return to sue, as we did in a motion promoted by the Socialists and unanimously approved in the Municipal Plenary of February 2017, to the PP Government team to urge the Government of the Region of Murcia and the Government of Spain to immediately draw up a calendar of actions to proceed with the comprehensive modernization of the Cercanías line that runs through our municipality and not wait for the still distant arrival of the planned High Speed ".
Romera assures that "Lorca and the Region of Murcia can not wait any longer and that this railway modernization has to be immediate, which must go through the electrification of the Murcia-Lorca-Águilas line, the substitution of the current trains with others of last generation that would reduce travel times by up to 40%, duplicating the route, adapting schedules and frequencies to the real needs of the population, creating new direct services of Media Distancia between Lorca and Cartagena and Lorca and Alicante to avoid transfers, and a daily Long Distance service between Lorca and Madrid.
These actions, without a doubt, "will come to improve the position of Lorca in the regional and national context, and the railroad will become a basic infrastructure for our economic and social development".
