New temporary exhibition in the MASS: 'Art, history and symbolism of the blue mayordomo' (17/01/2018)

The President of the Brotherhood of Labradores, Paso Azul, José María Miñarro, together with the President of the Paso Azul Foundation, María del Sagrado Corazón García, and the President of the Association of Our Lady of Sorrows, Joaquina Gil Arcas, have presented the exhibition "Art, history and symbolism of the blue butler" that will be present in the Blue Museum of Holy Week, MASS, between January 19 and the 18 of next February.

The new temporary exhibition that the MASS opens this Friday at 8:00 pm takes a tour of the history and trajectory of the dress of the stewards of our Brotherhood, analyzing the different styles and techniques used in its realization.

Curated by Mª Dolores Gutiérrez, Vice President of Paso Azul, more than thirty tunics will be part of it.

In addition, visitors can also contemplate a large number of essential accessories in the trousseau of this unique figure of our biblical-passional parades such as crosspieces, rosaries and gloves, elements that complete the blue butler's dress.

In this sample you can find tunics of great antiquity and that in some cases had not been shown to the public since the last century.

This is the case of the tunic of Pedro López de Teruel, dating from the last third of the 19th century.

On the other hand, in the exhibition we can find very special tunics like those of the Mayordomos de la Virgen de los Dolores made by Joaquín Gimeno Mouliaá in 1972 that combine maroon velvet with blue.

Also, there are also more recent robes, such as those of the last presidents of the Brotherhood or the one donated by Evaristo Sánchez García, real jewels of embroidery that testify the evolution of this dress.

In this sense, José María Miñarro has taken the opportunity to publicly reiterate the commitment of Paso Azul with the culture of the Region of Murcia, stressing that "without any doubt, the Blue Museum of Holy Week is already the most important cultural reference of Lorca, both for the quality and the number of activities carried out throughout the year, which shows the commitment of Paso Azul with the city of Lorca.
