The Councilor for the Promotion of the Historic Center in the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, has reported that the municipality will have a new tool to continue work in progress for the revitalization of the historic center.
This is the Strategic Plan for the Recovery of the Historic District, a document of great value that will synthesize a battery of 17 different instruments, covering more than 15,000 folios, and that have been developed over the past years by different analysts. university students, architects, private studies, foundations, professional groups and public administrations.
Martínez Navarro explained that the drafting of this Plan is one of the fundamental challenges that has marked the Plenary Council Sectorial Enhancement of the Historic District, which was formed and had its first meeting yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Consistory.
This document, which is being prepared by specialists in the field of the University of Murcia (UMU), already has an advance that was exposed during the meeting, so that its content is analyzed and implemented with contributions that they want to be transferred by the multiple collectives that are part of the Council.
It should be noted that this body has representatives of Chamber of Commerce, Ceclor, Federation of Neighborhood Associations, the Directors General of the Ministries of Housing, Culture and Tourism, two independent external advisors appointed by these groups, as well as councilors of the government team and the Mayor himself, Fulgencio Gil.
The delegated mayor of this area has stressed that the Council is committed, in this regard, to establish a still picture that clarifies and gives a certain unity to these documents, and that serves to take advantage of the lessons that the earthquakes of 2011 have left us, taking as an objective the revitalization of this urban perimeter and the generation of the necessary strategies and measures to accelerate its repopulation.
The mayor of Casco Historico has anticipated that the work of this Council will be materialized with concrete examples in a very short period of time.
In fact, the organization and development of several sessions of the City Forum has already been planned in our municipality, a framework prepared as a channel for citizen input in the area of historic center that will have, in principle, 3 open days that are expected to are carried out throughout the months of February and March, and through which will be put on the table experiences of recovery of historical hulls similar to Lorca.
The first of these sessions, following the established framework, will deal with examples of general action, addressing the cases of the city of Segovia as well as the conclusions of the Confederation of Historic Centers of Spain.
The second day will focus on matters of trade, tourism and heritage, with representatives who will present the cases of the municipality of Cáceres, as well as the UNESCO Ubeda-Baeza destination, while the City Forum will conclude with a meeting on Branding in the that you will be able to know firsthand what has been done in the cities of Córdoba and Granada.
This organism has the purpose of becoming the tool that allows to develop a global strategy for the improvement and revitalization of the Historical Lorca.
We speak of a privileged and referential space to know the history of this municipality and that has suffered during the last decades a gradual abandonment of both population and activity that has impacted on its deterioration.
Sandra Martinez has said that Lorca must continue to recover its historic center and put it in value as a space of historical and cultural interest, but also of residence and economic activity, promoting a dynamic area in tourism development and social coexistence.
It is a collective demand of Lorca and Lorca and a priority for the whole municipality.
Only from collective work and citizen participation can a strategy be promoted that is up to the needs of the city.
We firmly believe that the joint effort will allow us to implement those strategic lines for a comprehensive improvement of the Historic District as well as the development of relevant projects to return to this area its privileged position of yesteryear but adapted to present and future challenges, endowing Lorca and Lorca of a Historical Center of marked prominence in the daily prism.
This Council constitutes a new example of citizen participation in our municipal area and encourages the proposals, studies and relevant advice for the development of this key space, the Regulation includes the mechanisms destined to ensure its proper functioning and to determine its organs and participants .
