The environmental protection of the Luchena River is a red line against any project that intends to materialize in that environment.
This morning, the spokesperson of IU-Greens, Pedro Sosa, spoke out loudly.
The councilor recalled that already in the stage of Leoncio Collado as Mayor of Lorca by the PSOE, when they tried to puncture the Luchena aquifer to increase its flow, we radically opposed and even got to organize a march down the river Luchena to which they went hundreds of people from Lorca and the districts closest to this natural treasure that we enjoy in our municipality.
It will not be different from any project that attempts against this extraordinary natural heritage of Lorca, has advanced the spokesman of IU-V.
Now, says Sosa, we do not know the ends of the project announced by the Councilor of works of the City of Lorca, Angel Meca, consisting of the creation of a river beach.
We do not know the dimensions, nor the concrete place, nor the environmental affection to the riparian flora, to the traces of riverside forest existing there, to the birds, to the fauna of the river, to the landscape, etc.
The river already has bathing areas in many of its stretches, from the same Ojos de Luchena, to the places of natural backwater of the waters in the meanders or those that have been achieved with the manual placement of small stone dams.
We also do not know if this project saves the regulations of the two figures of protection (LIC and ZEPA) that the Luchena river has, nor what it thinks, if it is aware of it, the environmental administration of the Region of Murcia.
It is not just a question of asking the Segura Hydrographic Confederation for permission, says Sosa, the project must respect all the applicable environmental regulations and, of course, we will demand that any action intended to be carried out there be environmentally evaluated in advance and pre-emptively.
Sosa has concluded that when the rulers of Lorca, whether from the PSOE or the PP, look at the Luchena river, it is never usually to protect their natural values, which is precisely the greatest obligation that binds them to this river.
