The Deputy Speaker of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Alfonso Martínez Baños denounces the neglect and apathy of the governments of the PP in the matter of railway infrastructures.
The Deputy Speaker of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Alfonso Martínez Baños has stressed the need to radically change the policies on railway infrastructure in the region and prioritize a commuter network in the best conditions, something essential to have a competitive public transport and sustainable in our Autonomous community.
Martinez has defended today in the Plenary Session of the Regional Assembly in which he requested the improvement and modernization of the train line Murcia-Lorca-Águilas.
This initiative has been approved, without the support of the Popular Party deputies, who have abstained.
Denounces that the situation of the railways in the region "is third world, we are the worst in Spain by far".
Ensures that in 270 kilometers of railroad there is not a single electrified meter, being the only community in Spain in this situation.
Martínez Baños affirmed that the Murcia-Lorca and Águilas line is obsolete, in spite of the great demand of existing travelers.
"It has wagons from the 80s, with leaks, with problems in their engines, which sometimes work at medium gas or do not work directly.
He also indicated that in 2017 there were hundreds of incidents, of which 70 were very serious.
"An inadmissible situation for the citizens of the region and that makes us lose travelers because of the poor service there is and the carelessness and apathy of the PP governments with this issue."
The PSOE is committed to the modernization of the Cercanías with the electrification of the line and the connection of Lorca with Cartagena, Alicante and Madrid.
This initiative in the Regional Assembly comes after numerous initiatives promoted by the PSOE, in the Plenary Session of the City of Lorca and also through the Lorca deputy, Isabel Casalduero.
Lorca socialists have been leading the political allegations for years about the "third world situation" in which is the Cercanías train service that covers the line Murcia-Lorca-Águilas.
In February 2017, the PSOE also promoted a motion in this same direction, in the plenary session of the City Council of Lorca.
However, despite having the backing of all political forces, in a year the governments of the Popular Party, in Lorca, Murcia and the State have not promoted "not a single improvement" in this transport service, so demanded, especially for the students of Lorca and its region.
They regret, in addition, that being the line "in worse state" of the country, is not among the plans of the Popular Party the improvement of this network of neighborhoods, that yes will be improved in other points of the country, as recently announced by the Government of Rajoy .
