The Socialists say that the Popular Party has been planning a cultural policy in Lorca for years lacking in ideas and innovation, only following the activities carried out by the different cultural associations, or the Holy Week brotherhoods, which in recent years have been covering the cultural artistic gap that the City Council does not attend
The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has proposed a series of initiatives for the city to become a cultural reference, from the enhancement of the rich municipal artistic heritage.
García Jiménez regrets that more than a decade ago Lorca ceased to be a reference in the Region of Murcia, losing cultural prominence behind cities such as Cartagena and Molina de Segura.
The socialists are wondering what the current mayor of Lorca and his mayor of the sector, Mr. Llamas, mean by "Culture".
For the PSOE Culture is the expression of our humanity and, as such, it is a good of first necessity and a right to exercise.
Therefore, they ask the City Council for more investment and quality in cultural events that bear the municipal seal.
They demand the update of the inventory of pictorial and sculptural municipal works
García Jiménez regrets that the Councilor for Culture continues to have as a pending issue to update the inventory of municipal pictorial and sculptural works.
At present, 367 cataloged works appear although "there are other new acquisitions that do not appear in the inventory".
Since 2015, they demand that it be updated, for Lorca's knowledge.
In this line, the socialist mayor is committed to making known to Lorca the extensive artistic and sculptural heritage that is owned by the Hon.
City Council of Lorca.
Therefore, they propose that the public display of the pictorial and sculptural works that are "disseminated" by the different municipal offices be carried out in an organized manner.
For García Jiménez, the Consistory must expose and publicize the pictorial and sculptural patrimony municipal property, to attract visitors and above all, so that Lorca "feel proud of our artists."
The mayor is convinced that Lorca "will be surprised by the artistic quality" and in turn, encourage the habit of attending exhibitions, bringing art more directly to citizens.
The PSOE asks to pay tribute to the figure of Lorca painters and sculptors through exhibitions
In the same way, the PSOE councilor proposes to institutionalize the tribute to live Lorca artists, such as Vicente Ruiz, Joaquín Castellar, Juan Jiménez, Obdulia Castroverde, Miguel García Peñarrubia, María Dolores Fernández Arcas, through individual exhibitions where their works are exhibited, property of the City Council, together with works owned by the authors, in an act of recognition and appreciation of the city to our painters and sculptors who have a long professional career.
They ask to bring to Lorca the Anthological Exhibition of the sculptor Pepito Marcos
The mayor recalls that in 2015, they proposed to bring to Lorca the exhibition of the work of the late Murcia sculptor, José González Marcos, of strong ties with the city.
A proposal that, despite having the initial approval "was in the drawer of the office of Councilor for Culture."
García Jiménez says it is a "lost opportunity" because the costs "were not high" and the sculptural figure of "Pepito Marcos" is one of the "great of the 20th century" in the Region of Murcia.
