Next Monday, the Socialists will once again bring to the Lorca Plenary the voice of those affected by the floods, and of all the residents of the districts who continue to live with the fear that the flood of 2012 will be repeated, since during the last 6 years the PP has not executed one of the necessary measures to mitigate the flood risk
"If it rained again in a torrential way as it did on that fateful September 28, 2012, the same fateful consequences would be repeated."
That is the "sad reality" that continues to worry the neighbors of the districts that were affected by the San Wenceslao flood.
Six years later, the different administrations, all of them led by the Popular Party, have not carried out "any of the measures approved, necessary to mitigate the maximum possible risk of flooding in our region".
For this reason, the PSOE will return to the municipal plenary the demand that the different administrations "comply with what was promised and solve the concerns of the residents of Campillo, Torrecilla, Cazalla, Purias, Almendricos and Esparragal", in the face of the possible risk of to repeat the same tragic consequences as in 2012. It is not the first time that the Socialists take initiatives in this regard to the Plenary.
Since 2012, the demands that the socialists have pushed to calm this neighborhood concern have been "continuous".
The last and most recent was the motion that the PSOE promoted in the plenary session of July 2017 to demand the start of the works to extend the drainage of the Rambla de Biznaga.
In addition, in both motions, both in 2015 and in 2016, the Socialists raised to full initiatives in search of the measures that are still not implemented and, again, demand.
Therefore, the PSOE will require the Mayor to urge the Regional Government to start work on the expansion of the viaducts of drainage on the Viznaga rambla of roads RM-11 (Lorca-Águilas motorway) and RM-621 (old Águilas road), work that is projected and awarded.
In addition, they will urge the Government of Spain so that the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura elaborates an Integral Plan of Defense Against Avenues, that includes a memory and the scheduling of actions based on its preference attending to the primary protection of the resident population and its productive system .
For the socialists, as well as for the neighbors, it is "essential" the construction of dams for the rolling of avenues in the upper part of the basins of the most problematic wadis due to the enormous flows they can generate (Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla ).
Also the restitution of the historical channels and the creation of a natural drainage network that ends in the Viznaga rambla.
They announce that they will ask the City Council of Lorca, together with the Regional Government, to develop an institutional campaign to raise awareness among the local population about the risk of flooding and the ways to act before, during and after a flood, especially among the school population.
In addition, the socialists consider it "fundamental" to ensure a "coherent and rational" urban practice that takes into account the special territorial conditions of the area in terms of flood risk.
Actions that go through the application of land uses and planning figures, granting of licenses and exhaustive control in the performance of actions in the public and private domain.
