The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, chaired this morning the session of constitution of the Sectoral Council for Women and Equal Opportunities of the city that has taken place in the Local Development Center with the aim of converting the municipality, hand in hand numerous social agents of the city, in a reference in terms of equality policies.
It is a participation body chaired by the Mayor, who will hold meetings periodically and in which collectives and sectors related to the field of women and equal opportunities are represented to enrich existing programs and propose new projects.
This initiative aims to work from dialogue, consensus and citizen participation, among other issues, in a realistic, functional and operational Equality Plan that brings together the various programs that already implement municipal techniques and feels the foundations of the road map that the municipality must continue in the different areas of intervention to continue advancing for real equality.
The Mayor of Lorca said that "Lorca is fortunate to have a wide range of women's groups of remarkable work and important impact on the day to day of the municipality." Women's associations are present in the different districts and neighborhoods, defending to all the neighbors and encouraging each population nucleus.The female collectives of Lorca are synonymous with culture, meetings, training, society and coexistence, because the activities they develop stand out for their breadth and variety, so our city must have with a Sectorial Council of this nature ".
Fulgencio Gil stressed that "in addition, inequality is one of the most serious problems that our society is currently suffering from, although it has been improved in many ways over the last few years, we must aspire to a single, unrenounceable objective: total equality between the sexes. We are going to settle for less, women deserve equal pay, have the same opportunities to get a job and be treated with absolute dignity, but there is a fundamental issue in terms of equality policies, one of the great scourges that Our world continues to suffer: sexist violence, for which purpose the creation of a specific commission, protected by the Council itself, will be proposed, complementing the great work carried out by the Local Coordination Table, which is composed exclusively of professionals from these fields " .
