El Paso Azul inaugurates a monument in honor of the blue cuadrigueros, pioneers in Holy Week in Lorca (24/02/2018)

La Hermandad de Labradores, Paso Azul, opened on the morning of Saturday, February 24, a monument dedicated to the first chariots of Holy Week in Lorca, especially to D. Pedro Martínez Guijarro, visionary and pioneer who led the Brotherhood of Farmers and the Holy Week of Lorca to a new level.

During the ceremony, which was attended by José María Miñarro, President of Paso Azul;

María del Sagrado Corazón García, President of the Paso Azul Foundation;

Joaquina Gil, President of the Association of Our Lady of Sorrows;

Rogelio Martínez, son of the honoree;

and various members of the Martínez-Cardona family, it was discovered.

The beauty of the work immediately started the applause of the numerous attendees, who could contemplate the spectacular work of the renowned artist María Blázquez.

Then Miñarro addressed the audience.

During the speech he recalled that the Brotherhood of Labradores is the culprit that Lorca's Holy Week is as we know it today thanks to great blues like D. Pedro Martínez Guijarro, who in 1945 made the city of Lorca mute with the rumble of his four galloping horses.

For his part, Rogelio Martínez also wanted to address the assembled public to show his gratitude to the Paso Azul and in turn to tell them, as his father had told him, how the idea of ​​taking four horses in line and galloping came about.

After the ceremonial acts, the public gathered enjoyed an aperitif during which the praises to the new work of art that enriches even more the rich heritage of the San Francisco environment and that from now on will welcome the Visitors of the Blue Museum of Holy Week.
