Pedro Sosa, councilor spokesman for Izquierda Unida Verdes in Lorca, presented this past full February a request for Lorca return to appear on the weather forecast maps offered by Spanish television.
This request urges that the mayor of Lorca address written to the Director of RTVE Meteorological Services proposing that, for reasons of geographical location within the Region of Murcia, territorial extent and population size, consider again the opportunity to include to the municipality of Lorca in the temperature map of the TVE program "El Tiempo".
The government team gladly accepted the proposal and promised to carry it out.
The current format of the public television program TVE1 "El Tiempo en la 1" contains detailed information on the temperatures in which, for exhibition purposes, the map of Spain is divided by region.
The Region of Murcia appears in the same next to the neighboring Valencian Community.
In the beginnings of that format, the municipality of Lorca was one of the selected municipalities within the Region of Murcia, appearing in addition to the municipalities of Murcia and Yecla.
Shortly after the first broadcasts of that format Lorca disappeared from the map, and was replaced by Cartagena.
Interestingly, anyone who follows this television program can check that the name of the port city is stamped just above the municipality of Lorca.
Of the nine municipalities on which TVE1 decides to report every day in the Valencian Community, removed the three provincial capitals, only the municipality of Elche has more population than Lorca.
The other five are minor.
We believe important, for obvious reasons that go beyond the merely informative, that Lorca returns to the weather map of public television, and this, logically, without any intention to harm or exclude any municipality in our region or the nearby autonomies of Andalusia and Valencia, which already appear in the referred information.
