This is an intervention that includes an investment of 23,400 euros that will be financed entirely by the CARM through the General Directorate of Commerce.
The Councilor for Commerce in the City of Lorca, María del Carmen Ruiz, along with the general director of Commerce of the CARM, Francisco Abril, has informed this morning of the immediate start of the works to modernize and improve the popular Square of the Vegetables of the neighborhood of San Cristóbal.
The Councilor for Commerce has indicated that we are talking about an intervention that will serve to improve the popular Plaza de las Hortalizas, one of the popular emblems of the San Cristóbal neighborhood, a traditional place for rabalero neighbors to shop. .
From the Municipal Consistory, at the express request of our Mayor Fulgencio Gil, we were working on the search for funding to improve aesthetically and formally this property, which enjoys a privileged location between the House of the Incarnate Step and the church of San Cristóbal, center religious par excellence of the neighborhood.
Once the needs of this Plaza had been analyzed, and after satisfying the suggestions of the guests themselves, a renovation project was defined that seeks to offer a new image while respecting its traditional profile.
Ruiz Jódar explained that shortly after having met the needs for improvement of the property was reported the establishment of a line of aid in this regard by the General Directorate of Commerce, which we decided to attend.
As a result of this work we have managed to obtain a total of 23,400 euros that covers the works needed to improve this Plaza.
We can anticipate that the works that are to be executed include the roof waterproofing and installation, the installation of gutters with their respective downpipes, the integral cleaning of the façade, the replacement of the exterior luminaire with a similar one of led technology, the repair of the cantilever and the revision of the the upper pieces of marble cover, replacing the deteriorated ones, review of the tiling of the interior areas, demolishing and reconstructing the tiling whose subjection is damaged, as well as the change of the current awnings, which show deterioration due to inclement weather.
The Edil de Comercio has stated that the works begin immediately, The history of this Plaza dates back to 1860, and has been the object of successive remodeling, remembering for example those made in the years 1921 and 1942, being its current line the derived from the intervention carried out in 1999.
The City of Lorca has improved over the last few years more than a hundred streets in the neighborhood of San Cristóbal, investments of which include the integral improvement of Calle Mayor and Ortega Melgares (715,000 euros), as well as Eulogio Periago (712,000 €) including the latter in an injection of 7.5 million for the comprehensive arrangement of a battery of 58 streets, which makes this performance the most beneficial and high that has been made in San Cristóbal in its history.
In addition to the indicated, other municipal works have allowed the improvement of other 46 streets in the same neighborhood.
It should be anticipated that the improvement works will also be started soon in Carrer Charco, which have already been awarded for an amount of 358,333.70 euros.
