Adoración Peñas, councilor of the municipal group of IU-Verdes in Lorca has expressed the disagreement of his group regarding the policy followed by the councilor of education in the management of the municipality library network of the municipality.

Peñas recalled that, although the libraries of the city center are managed by staff, however, the neighborhoods and districts (Prince of Asturias, Zarcilla, La Paca, La Hoya, Villaespesa, Purias, Marchena, Cazalla and Almendricos ) they are for the private company that wins the tender.

In this sense, the mayor states that at the moment is open a process to tender this municipal service in which companies can be presented that meet the technical and economic requirements set out in the specifications.

Peñas denounces that the Department of Education does not have the slightest interest in improving the conditions and library services offered in the districts, despite being virtually the only cultural offer in them, making directly responsible to Councilor Francisco Montiel .

From IU-Green remember that in 2013 this service suffered a significant cut, going from 16 hours per week to 9, offering a 3-hour service for 3 days a week, a cut that justified the responsible councilor as something circumstantial, but that 5 years After that, it has not been reversed and, as shown in the current bidding process, it is not planned to do so in the near future either.

The mayor has denounced that with these conditions it is not possible to introduce changes or improvements in the library service in districts and regrets that the consistory insist on maintaining this service instead of promoting this important cultural activity that undoubtedly contributes to revitalize life in districts, taking into account the non-existent cultural programming in them.

On the other hand, from IU-Greens also denounce the imbalance and the comparative grievance suffered by the workers of the libraries of districts with respect to municipal officials, not only in regard to the miserable salaries they receive, but in their own working conditions , since the people in charge of the parish libraries can not carry out a decent program of activities with the number of hours and the budget they have.
