Researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) will analyze and diagnose, in collaboration with the technicians of the Lorca City Council, the General Municipal Plan of Ordination (PGMO) and propose a model of urban and territorial development for the future revision of the Plan General, according to the agreement signed today by the rector of the Polytechnic, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, and the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil.
"This agreement is added to the long list of agreements with municipalities in the region, through which we transfer to society the knowledge, in this case in urban planning, of our researchers", explained the Rector.
The mayor said that the agreement seeks to "put urbanism at the service of citizens.
We are talking about reformulating the PGMO, adjusting it to the current reality to enable the sustainable, orderly and real growth of our municipality.
The projections of the moment in which it was written have been totally obsolete and out of date ".
Funcencio Gil stressed that "the new Lorca we are raised together requires us to provide us with an effective General Plan, free of the ties of the past, and that definitively stop calculations and forecasts that were made at the height of the real estate bubble, that neither they have served or will serve in future. "
Experts from the Urban Research Laboratory of the UPCT, coordinated by Professor Marcos Ros, will work jointly with municipal technicians of the City Council.
The agreement will serve to know the current urban and urban situation of the municipality, as well as the monitoring of the adequacy of the General Plan to the new socioeconomic circumstances.
The analysis of the researchers will be carried out during the next twelve months and will lay the foundations for the preparation of a new General Plan for Urban Planning.
Likewise, the works will establish the fundamental directives of action for the future to adapt the urbanistic strategy of the municipality to the urban, territorial, social and economic reality of Lorca.
The estimated total duration of the collaboration agreement is two years, one for the preparation of the work and another for the tasks of dissemination and dissemination of the results of the research (congresses, conferences, publications and exhibitions).
Similar R & D & I projects have also been entrusted to the Polytechnic by the municipalities of Mula and Fuente Álamo.
In addition, the experts of the Polytechnic are finalizing an investigation on the urban and environmental situation of the municipality of Murcia.
Up to seven research teams of the Polytechnic of Cartagena already worked between 2013 and 2015 for the City of Lorca conducting a groundbreaking study of Seismic Microzonation, the first at the municipal level that was made in Spain.
