The works include providing new equipment and facilities for the optimization of management processes and classification of urban waste, with the aim of increasing the recovery capacity of organic and inorganic materials.
This investment is in addition to the one that is already being executed for an amount of 4.3 million, and that allows Lorca to save 5.8 million each year.
The Delegate Councilor of the Municipal Cleaning Company (Limusa), Juan Francisco Martínez, has affirmed that the new investment amounting to almost 6 million euros by the Regional Government for the optimization of the Treatment Plant of the Waste Management Center (CGR) of Barranco Hondo, will place Lorca at the forefront in the use and reuse of urban waste.
Martínez Carrasco has indicated that the approval by the Governing Council of the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment to make this investment will also complete the modernization of the CGR that is already running and is financed with its own funds of Limusa, reaching 4,336,975.40 euros.
In this project the construction of the new glass is added to the current one (cell 2), the construction of access roads and ditches, a raft for rainwater collection, the renovation of the lighting and the construction of an administrative building with an education classroom environmental and training, so the percentage of execution as a whole is 30.72%.
We must remember that the works underway allow the new glass of the CGR will be 55% more efficient and cheaper than the previous one, multiply by 4 its useful life and allow Lorca to save annually 5,857,456.44 euros between travel costs and urban waste handling.
The total capacity of the installation is 2,826,000 cubic meters.
The increase compared to the current glass, which has served 9 years and 7 months, is 254%.
The Councilman of Limusa has explained that the new project that will be developed in the CGR is included in the model of city that among all Lorca are raising for our New Lorca.
It is a strategic project that will enable Lorca to grow in a sustainable manner, taking advantage of, reusing and offering urban waste the most respectful treatment with the environment.
We are facing a very good news that adds to the dozens of ongoing actions that are being met and that are getting Lorca to make the infrastructure that historically demanded our society (Fair and Congress Center, evacuation round, urban renewal of neighborhoods , improvement of the road and highway network ...)
The works, which will have an execution period of 12 months, include providing new equipment and facilities for the optimization of management processes and classification of urban waste, with the aim of increasing the recovery capacity of organic and inorganic materials.
It is planned that this year works will be carried out for a value of 4,748,233 euros and in 2019 they will be completed with an investment of 1,190,609 euros.
This initiative has European co-financing through Feder funds.
Martínez Carrasco has anticipated that in the next few days the project will be explained in detail, following the line of total clarity and transparency established by our Mayor, Fulgencio Gil.
For this purpose, a visit will be made to the CGR where all the issues related to this new investment of the Regional Government in our city will be informed.
