The councilors of PSOE and IU Green in Lorca, Andrea Periago and Peñas Adoration have joined this morning to demand the Councilor for Equality, the Popular Party, the immediate implementation of a strategic plan for equality for the municipality.
Andrea Periago regretted that the new Councilor for Equality continues to maintain "in the drawer" the equality plan that, in 2007, was in charge of keeping the Popular Party as soon as it entered the Mayor's Office of Lorca.
A plan, remember, drawn up by the previous government of the PSOE and that was the fruit of the "real, joint and effective" participation of the social fabric of the city.
Periago has appealed to the councilor of equality, the Popular Party to demonstrate, with work, whether or not it is for equality and not just to do it "mouthpiece".
The proof is that, during the day yesterday, neither he nor the PP government team supported the movements through which "hundreds of Lorca and Lorca" were mobilized to support the feminist strike and the concentrations called by trade unions and sensitive organizations, with a very clear message: "Lorca is for equality".
In fact, recalls Periago, the Popular Party, through the Councilor for Equality, said in the last plenary session that the strike, according to him, was betting "on the confrontation between men and women" and that it was a movement "unsupportive, frivolous and irresponsible. "
Nothing is further from reality, he points out, as was demonstrated yesterday during the celebration of these acts.
In the same plenary, the councilman assured his intention to implement the equality plans for what they urge them to "demonstrate that commitment with facts."
PSOE and IU have agreed to congratulate the organizers and society as a whole, for the "historic success of participation" and the broad youth representation that supported the protest actions held on March 8 in Lorca.
On the other hand, Adoration Peñas has remembered the numerous initiatives that both formations have elevated to the municipal plenary during the last decade to obtain the starting of that so necessary strategic plan of equality in the municipality, the majority of them rejected by the PP.
Peñas regrets the lack of involvement of the governing team of the Popular Party both in the development of their own equality plans and in participation in others, such as the Regional Strategic Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men 2016-2020 that recently boosted the Autonomous Community and which the City of Lorca was totally foreign.
Remember that, not even on that occasion, the Popular Party was able to get involved in the participation to elaborate that strategic plan of equal regional opportunities, as it did in previous decades.
Neither together with other municipalities of the Region, Lorca was able to work in this participatory process for the development of the Plan, nor involve in it the more than 50 associations of women in the urban area and the districts that has our municipality, nor to those of neighbors or young people.
