The president of Paso Azul, José María Miñarro, the president of the Association of the Virgen de los Dolores, Joaquina Gil, and the artistic director of the brotherhood, Miguel García Peñarrubia, have presented the new cloths that will look on the throne of the St .
Virgen de los Dolores and that have been elaborated during the last two years in the Embroidery Workshop of Paso Azul in a joint effort between the Brotherhood of Farmers and the Association of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Miñarro stressed that "during the celebration of the september this afternoon we can enjoy for the first time on the throne the new cloths that will accompany the Virgen de los Dolores in each procession, two works designed and directed by Miguel García Peñarrubia. They have been embroidered for 22 months, with 6 embroiderers dedicating a total of 12,500 hours of work, using 3'5 kilograms of gold and 50,000 meters of natural silk. "
The cloths have been created according to the precepts of the classic embroidery that Francisco Cayuela would lead to excellence in Paso Azul.
It is a classic work, inspired by the tradition of the golden age of Lorca embroidery, but also brings some innovative nuances.
The two panels have a similar composition, changing only the central picture dedicated to the protagonists: San Juan and María Magdalena.
The gold canutillo ornamentation that frames the set is of modernist inspiration, ascending from the lower central part to represent the Ave Maria anagram made with natural silk enhancement.
The cloths have a very elaborate damask in the center, which is recovered and gives value to this fundamental element of the most traditional embroidery.
The damask in silk applied on the satin composes some worked flowers that represent the own blue ones and that, with a same blue, offers numerous tones thanks to the effect of the light.
The central motifs represent Saint John and Mary Magdalene, who according to the Gospels accompany Mary on Calvary, sharing their pain and sadness.
Through the trompe l'oeil the three-dimensionality of the embroidery is transmitted, emphasizing the stamp on the damask;
also highlights the corner bend, a tribute to the standard known as the "Horn", which in the past was part of the blue procession.
The oval frame has been made in natural silk, accompanied by flowers as an offering to the images.
Mary Magdalene is represented on the verge of shedding the tear, with her eyes raised to contemplate Christ in her suffering, petrified before the horrible vision of the crucifixion.
San Juan, on the other hand, contains sadness and keeps the pain inside;
He wants to be strong in order to support Mary, her new Mother at the behest of Jesus, the Mother of all Christians.
The President of the Blue Step wanted to "congratulate and thank Miguel García Peñarrubia for making this great work possible, as well as Juan Carlos Peñarrubia, director of the Workshop, but, of course, the most effusive congratulations have to go to the embroiderers who They have created with their effort and inspiration these great works that from now on will be part of the patrimony of our brotherhood and that will be admired by the blues, visitors and generations to come.For Paso Azul it is an honor to have embroiderers capable of carrying out works of art. art of so much beauty ".
Thanks to the realization of these new cloths, San Juan and María Magdalena created by Cayuela in 1917, works declared of Cultural Interest, BIC, will parade again as banners, embellishing even more the religious cortege of Paso Azul.
