March 15, 2017. The Councilor for Tourism of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, has announced various activities that will take place next Saturday on the occasion of the celebration of St. Patrick, patron of Ireland, the Region of Murcia and Local Police of Lorca.
Montiel recalled that "March 17 is a day intimately linked to the city of Lorca, it was on March 17, 1452 when there was the Battle of the Alporchones, one of the most illustrious weapons events in local history. As a tribute to the victory of the Lorca hosts was the excolegiata of Saint Patrick, the only Spanish Christian temple dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland ".
In view of the celebration next Saturday, Montiel said that "Lorca, visitors and tourists, both English and foreign English speakers, may know during this time the old town of Lorca by the hand of two local guides. English-speaking and another in Spanish who will explain how the Lorca hosts were imposed in the Battle of the Alporchones and what it supposed, especially in regard to the construction of St. Patrick. "
The visits will last approximately three hours.
The starting point will be the Plaza de España, at 11 am, prior reservation at the Tourist Office.
In fact, it has already confirmed the presence of more than fifty British citizens living on the coast of Almeria and other towns in the southeast.
It must be remembered that San Patricio is the patron of the Local Police of Lorca, so during the day the local agents will hold various activities.
At 11.30 in the excolegiata of San Patricio will be celebrated the mass in honor of St. Patrick.
At 12.15 the Plaza de España will host the traditional raising of the flag of Ireland while the anthem of this country played by the Municipal Band of Music.
Later the War Theater will host the ceremony of delivery of decorations and distinctions of the local Police.
Montiel wanted to encourage "visitors and Lorca to enjoy this day touring Lorca and its history and, especially, attending the flag raising, it is a very emotional act with which we strengthen the ties that bind us to this country and we remember the history of Lorca through one of its most famous episodes ".
