The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has announced his proposal with which they request the creation of an international poetry and short story contest, to recognize the figure of the most universal Lorca poet, D. Eliodoro Puche Happy

For the elaboration of this project, the socialists have counted on the invaluable work and knowledge of the Doctor in Literature, professor and researcher from Lorca, Mr. Juan Antonio Fernández Rubio.

He is the author of the only doctoral thesis on the work of D. Eliodoro Puche, defended in June 2016, and with which he obtained the Cum Laude graduation.

For the presentation of this initiative, the proponents have chosen this April 5, date on which the 133 anniversary of the birth of the illustrious poet Lorca.

García Jiménez believes that the city of Lorca is indebted to a "perpetual" recognition to D. Eliodoro Puche, at the height of his work.

For this reason, it asks the City Council of Lorca to add to the acknowledgments already granted to this "illustrious son" the annual convocation of an international literary contest with his name.

According to they have exposed, the creation of this contest persecutes to help poets and narrators in their artistic race, acting the City council of Lorca "like patrons";

offer to the diverse sectors of the population of the municipality, and by extension of the Region of Murcia, a rich program of cultural activities, and contribute in making Lorca an attractive showcase for tourism, calling the attention of a population group close to the field of letters.

García Jiménez says they will do everything possible to make this proposal move "as soon as possible", and adds that, if it does not have the approval of the current Mayor, it will be a proposal that the PSOE will take in its next government program, and which qualifies as one of the "jewels of the crown" in cultural matters.

For García Jiménez y Fernández, a literature contest dedicated to poetry and storytelling constitutes a "reason for joy" for the literary world, in particular, and for the cultural sphere, in general.

For this reason, with their proposal they intend to carry out a "determined commitment" to artistic expression and creation, which aims to "foster cultural impulse" both individually and as a whole of Lorca society.

During the presentation, the proponents have contributed a detailed report specifying the bases of the contest that, hopefully, may soon be a reality with which the town of Lorca can continue to recognize the figure of D. Eliodoro Puche.
