The neighbors denounce years of municipal abandonment, and numerous falls caused by the unfortunate state of the sidewalks, full of obstacles and defects that, together with the deficiencies in public lighting, hinder mobility and accessibility
The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Andrea Periago has demanded the current Mayor, Gil Jódar, to order the remodeling of the Camino Viejo del Puerto immediately.
In addition, he has asked the first mayor to clarify whether this area is within the scope of actions financed under the EIB loan.
Andrea Periago remembers that the Popular Party promised the integral remodeling of this area, and even, two years ago they announced that it would be contemplated with charge to the European loan.
For that reason, they ask that it clarify if it is or not contemplated, before the risk of it being left out, since the term expires at the end of this year.
The socialist mayor says that it is another area of ​​the city that, incomprehensibly, was not remodeled after the urban regeneration of nearby neighborhoods, such as the upper part of La Viña, or the neighborhoods of San José or Alfonso X .
For the PSOE "the logical" would have been to give a "continuity, an order and a sense" to the works of urban regeneration, and not the planning "at the height of the kill" that the Popular Party has done during its years of government in Lorca .
The mayor, accompanied by a large number of neighbors affected by the poor state of this area, ensured that if the rest of the works that are being executed in the city are important, in the Viejo del Puerto road "it is even more so".
The lack of maintenance in recent years has generated a "very high degree of deterioration, whose consequences are being paid by their neighbors."
Periago has pointed out that the great majority of neighbors are elderly, so "urges" to prepare the streets to improve accessibility and mobility.
The state of the streets, and ultimately all the surroundings of the Old Way of the Port, has caused many falls, especially among the elderly.
Impactable sidewalks, full of potholes and damages;
poorly fixed caissons and grilles, which are real obstacles for the mobility of people, or poor lighting are some of the complaints that most concern neighbors.
In addition, there is a need to renew the elements of urban furniture, such as benches or paper mills, and improve the fluvial collection system, to favor drainage in the event of rain.
Among the most urgent actions is the need to improve accessibility in Las Palomas street, at its intersection with Viejo del Puerto road, with the installation of ramps, handrails or zebra crossing signage.
In short, from the PSOE demand measures for the neighbors of the Old Way of the Port, see improved their streets and the environment of their homes, so that they gain welfare and tranquility in their lives.
