The councilor of this training, Gloria Martín, demands that the administrative procedures for the acquisition of an MRI, a CT scan and a digital mammograph, committed ten months ago be carried out urgently.
Meanwhile, the waiting list for mammograms exceeds a year and a half in Area III
The councilor of Left-United Greens, Gloria Martin, has denounced that the regional Government's Health Department has not taken out the acquisition of the magnetic resonance, the CT and the mammography that had to be acquired through a donation from the Amancio Ortega Foundation Gaona announced ten months ago.
According to the Protocol of Intent signed by the said foundation and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, (published in the BORM on July 8, 2017) the Murcian Health Service (SMS) undertook to use a donation of 11.7 million of euros in the acquisition of professional equipment for the diagnosis of cancer for public hospitals in the Region.
Area III of Health would benefit from a magnetic resonance unit of 1.5 Teslas of power, a TAC of 64 cuts and a digital mammography of last generation.
However, the SMS has not initiated the administrative procedure for the bidding of these equipment, said Martín.
The mayor of IU-Greens showed her indignation because, meanwhile, the non-ambulatory patients to whom an MRI is indicated have to be transferred out of the hospital where they are admitted, in spite of their delicate state of health and precise serum or oxygen therapy.
In addition, he denounced that the waiting list for mammograms exceeds 18 months in that area, which includes the municipalities of Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras, Águilas, Totana and Aledo.
The early detection of breast cancer is crucial to reduce their mortality rates.
Therefore, Martín strongly criticizes the lack of commitment of the regional government in the fight against this disease.
"We do not want posture or pink ribbons to be placed in solidarity with the affected women, but to invest and provide public health with the necessary resources so that they can save their lives," he said.
Martín recalled that last year the diagnostic imaging equipment of the Virgen de la Arrixaca and Reina Sofia hospitals (Murcia), Santa Lucia (Cartagena), Caravaca and Yecla were renewed, completely obviating the needs of Rafael Méndez de Lorca.
Hospitals Murcia and Cartagena will now be gifted with the funds of the aforementioned foundation while Lorca still lacks the latest equipment with which these cities already have.
In this regard, Martin considered "indecent" that the Region has first and second-tier hospitals, which means that "citizens have different opportunities depending on whether the heart attack or stroke in Lorca or Murcia."
The mayor of IU-Verdes also showed her support to the personnel of the district hospital Rafael Méndez.
"We are aware of their struggle to expand their benefits portfolio and we know that they expect the resonance, the CAT scan and the mammogram as May water, along with the hiring of new workers", he assured.
Finally, Martin explained that his political background is not in favor of public health depends on the philanthropy of wealthy businessmen, "but it is absurd that, once the donation is accepted, the regional administration leave the body dead and not immediately allocate the money to the purchase and commissioning of this sanitary equipment, vital to improve the health and quality of life of the users of Area III ".
