The councilor of this training, Gloria Martin, denounces that the Murcian Health Service refuses to put sufficient resources to ensure that this recognized health service can be practiced in public centers in a safe, free and respecting the proximity criterion
The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martín, has accused of "cruel, degrading and inhumane treatment" to force women who interrupt their pregnancy before the 12th week of gestation to do it "with pain" or to pay out of pocket the cost of sedation.
It is "aberrant" that they have to pay between 90 and 100 euros to pay for anesthesia, as reported by the Association of Health Users of the Region of Murcia (ADSP-RM).
With its decision not to finance anesthesia in surgical abortions, the Ministry of Health of the Government of Murcia also encourages "medical legal uncertainty" as it forces gynecologists to breach the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Organic Law 2/2010 , of March 3, of sexual and reproductive health and of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy, as well as the Code of Ethics and Medical Ethics, which would imply "incurring in a disciplinary offense typified in the General Statutes of the Collegial Medical Organization".
This could affect the physicians of the five clinics that carry out voluntary interruptions of pregnancy in the Region of Murcia, one of them based in Lorca.
Martín recalled that in the Region more than 3,000 abortions are practiced per year. It is the sixth community with the highest rate per thousand women, of which practically 90% are referred to these concerted clinics.
"The official excuse is the conscientious objection of the health personnel, but the reality is that the Murcian Health Service refuses to put enough resources to ensure that this recognized health service can be practiced in public centers in a safe, free and respecting the criterion of proximity, "he said.
In that sense, he recalled that some women are referred to Madrid to undergo a curettage.
"In a situation of great vulnerability they send them to 400 kilometers with a train ticket, which infringes a terrible desamparo on the part of the regional sanitary authorities", lamented.
According to the mayor of IU-Greens, the cause of all this is "purely ideological".
"Using the pain of women as a bargaining chip to satisfy the most fundamentalist sectors of the Popular Party and the Catholic Church is indecent," said Martin who also criticized the "complicit silence" of Citizens, which supports the PP in the Government of Murcia .
"Choosing about our motherhood is a fundamental right of women and, as such, can not be exchanged with the most reactionary religious and social classes," he said.
